If you prefer MSI boards over brands like Asus (although I certainly do not fall into that category), you will be happy to know that MSI is planning on throwing its hat into the increasingly crowded ultra-low cost laptop ring. MSI is hard at work on the new device and they are betting on Intel’s upcoming Diamondville microprocessor to give it an edge over devices like Asustek’s Eee PC. According to an MSI executive, the product should be out sometime in July or August—just a few months after Diamondville is slated to be unveiled at the Intel Developer Forum in Shanghai. [PC World]
That super light 2.4-pound Toshiba Portege ultra-portable (previous version here) has gotten a little upgrade in the form of 3.5G HSDPA connectivity. That’s right, you’ll soon be able to take this laptop out anywhere and still be able to get online and upload your own YTMNDs, thanks to the GSM, GPRS, EGPRS, WCDMA and WCDMA+HSDPA support. The good news is, the laptop’s already cleared the FCC, so you may get it sooner than you think (if you think that it’s coming out in Q4 2007). Full specs after the jump.
Asus’ tiny Internet PC just got a little sweeter. The 7-inch handheld is rumored to be coming out this August for a mere $199. That’s less than half the price of the Palm Foleo. There’s even rumblings that future versions might have a 3G radio embedded. So between the Foleo and the NanoBook, the Eee PC still has the upper hand in my book. – Louis Ramirez
The guys at Stuff UK got their hands on Sony’s new VAIO TZ and from the looks of it, they might never let go. The 11.1-inch ultraportable has a 9-hour battery life, an LED backlit screen and packs enough muscle to fly through Vista Aero. The system passed all of their tests with flying colors, but it’s the battery test that pleases me the most.
