Acquisitions. I never knew they were infectious. Yet, going by Telstra’s recent communications to its staff, they may very well be, with the telco informing its employees that TPG could buy up iiNet, a move that would see the company leap into second position among Australia’s internet providers. So Internode previewed its proposed NBN prices yesterday, and as I said then, it’s a possible view at how the competitive landscape may unfold. But Internode is just one medium ISP — and a premium priced one at that. So the ensuing cries of “NBN fail!” from Malcolm Turnbull and some quarters of the media are entirely way too premature. Standalone ADSL2+ users on a $30 plan now receive 50GB (up from 15GB), while the $40 plan is increased from 60GB to 150GB. The $50 plan gets a boost from 200GB to 500GB, though its shaped speed is reduced from 1Mbps to 256kbps, matching the other plans. The new quotas are divided in half: peak and off-peak (2:30am-8:30am). [TPG via Whirlpool]
Those Unlimited ADSL2+ plans that were unveiled on Whirlpool last month are now officially available. For just $75 a month, you get unlimited ADSL2+ broadband. No upload limits, no download limits. Of course there is a catch, although it’s only a temporary one… More »
It looks like AAPT opened the floodgates – TPG has announced on the Whirlpool forums know that they’re planning on launching an unlimited ADSL2+ plan for $75 a month. More »
Well, it appears that AFACT’s lawsuit against iiNet has persuaded other ISPs to start passing on those infringement notices to people using Bittorrent for piracy. A regular tipster has just forwarded through an infringement notice from TPG, and while we don’t condone piracy here at Giz, the bubble of fantasy that the studios (in this case CBS) are living in is just too large to not want to try and pop. Okay, we admit that we’re a little late with this one, but Whirlpool, easily Australia’s best broadband news site, last week posted the results of its annual Australian Broadband Survey. The survey covers satusfaction with both ISPs and networking hardware, and is definitely worth a read if you’re in the market for either.
We heard new plans from Virgin last week for their HSDPA-based phone + broadband boxes, and TPG also threw down some good news for the “I don’t want no stinkin’ landline” brigade. Over on the Whirlpool forums, a TPG rep announced they want to introduce two naked DSL plans. Lovely naked ladies not included, except here now and then when we get the lamest excuses – next time we’ll run a guy with ripped abs, okay?
From the forum:
TPG would like to introduce ADSL2+ ULL plans.
ULL Plan includes data line and customers don’t have to subscribe Telstra copper line.
ADSL2+ All in One Basic | 25GB* (18 Peak+ 7 Off Peak) | $59.99 ADSL2+ All in One Super | 150GB* (35 Peak+ 115 Off Peak) | $79.99
*Speeds will be shaped to 64k/64k when download quota is reached.
Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Needless to say opinion is being shared. All I can say is I’m moving house very soon and I hope this goes live before I’m in need of a new hook up. -Seamus Byrne More »
