They originally claimed it would be announced tomorrow, but I guess now that Telstra and Optus have released pricing info, there’s no need for VHA to hold back on their iPhone 4 pricing. So here you go:
If nothing else, Apple is a company that’s exceptionally regular in its release schedule. We’ve seen new iPods every September/October for almost a decade, new iPhones announced each June and Mac refreshes almost every January. But as Gus over at Lifehacker points out, this regularity means that it’s highly unlikely we’ll see new iPhone 4′s hitting Australian shelves this month.
Looks like this whole Vodafone and Three merger is starting to heat up. On the back of Vodafone offering free calls to Three customers, Gus over at Lifehacker has gotten his hands on a Vodafone memo which states that as of July, customers will be able to sign up for Vodafone plans at Three retail stores.
Last week we told you that Vodafone were charging calls made to 3 mobiles as if they were Voda to Voda. This morning, VHA confirmed it:
For the past two iPhone launches, Optus has led the charge, both with plan pricing and announcements. Yet here we are, about a month from launch, and they’re the only major Telco without a pre-registration page for the new iPhone. What gives?
Back in March when Vodafone and Three refreshed their postpaid pricing, they introduced free Vodafone to Vodafone and Three to Three calls, but not from one to the other. According to Whirlpool, that all changed back on June 7, with some customers calls from Vodafone to Three being marked V23 and not actually costing them anything.
Given all the hype from Apple’s iPhone 4 launch around the introduction of FaceTime, you’d be forgiven for thinking that video calling on mobile phones was actually a new thing. But the truth is that, in Australia at least, video calling has been around since Hutchison Telecoms launched the Three network over here in 2003.
Gus over at Lifehacker has done me a huge favour. He created a simple to navigate chart of all the different iPad 3G MicroSIM plans from all the different carriers. Now I don’t have to do it!
HTC is keeping the Android flood washing over Australia by announcing the HTC Legend for Voda and Three last night. It’s the return of the chin!
Well, they sure took their sweet time in announcing the pricing for their iPad MicroSIMs, but Vodafone and Three have come out with a pretty darned competitive pricing plan for anyone picking up a 3G tablet…
