Nike+iPod Patent Shows Heart Rate, Temperature and Hydration Monitors

The main complaints about the current Nike+ Gear aren’t that it doesn’t do a good job keeping track of how far you run, it’s that it doesn’t measure stuff like heart rate, body temperature and other factors runners care about. Nike hears you. Their latest patent for upcoming Nike+ gear expands on the current concept and features all kinds of sensors over a person’s body, even possibly adding a GPS receiver so you can automatically map out the path you took on your run.

Colour-Changing Shower Head Protects Your Junk from Scalding

Temperature-detecting faucets have been available here for a while, but the same concept for shower heads have been mostly a Japanese-only affair. Imagine our surprise when we found these shower heads from China, which have four different shades to correspond to different temperatures: white for “I need to pay my utilities”, blue for “damn it, I should have waited for the water to heat up”, pink and violet for “ahhh, time to pee”, and hot red for “ouch my nads”. And since it’s from China, it’s pretty likely that this shower head should appear in cheap online and offline stores some time soon. [Alibaba via Gadgets News]

Powerless Wine Thermometer is Useful, Awesome

Different wines should be stored at different temperatures, but how can you tell quickly if your precious Bordeaux is being kept properly? You don’t want to waste time and money with some doodad that requires lots of batteries and wires, which is why this Liquid Crystal Wine Thermometer is so great.

It slips right over the bottle, and within a couple of minutes the temperature will appear on the side. There’s a list of all sorts of different wines, so you can see whether or not it’s chilled properly. And since it uses liquid crystals for the temperature display, no batteries or power is required. Slick.

Infrared Wine Thermometer, Corkscrew

I am a bit of a wine snob, if I do say so myself. Every time I am ready to crack open that bottle of Boone’s Farm I have to make sure I know it is the right temperature for consuming. That stuff is pretty classy at $3 per bottle and I wouldn’t want to ruin a bottle by compromising its flavor. Checking wine temperature is even easier with this device. It uses infrared technology to check the temperature of the wine and if it is ready for drinking you can flip out the corkscrew and get drinking. It also includes a bottle opener if you want to know your beer is the right temperature and also a knife so can temperature check that fish before hacking it open. Haven’t you heard the proverb: “Those who hack a cold fish go home a warm duck”? $130. –Travis Hudson

Digital LED Fan Isn’t any Colder than Normal Fan

This fan uses LEDs to display the temperature on its whirring blades. That way you can look over at it and realize just how hot it is and that you should have bought air conditioning instead of a gimmicky fan. Nice work, idiot.. –Adam Frucci

Romteck Heat Stress Monitor Can Predict Heat Stroke

Anyone who is off to somewhere very hot this summer—it could be the Burning Man Festival or a tour of duty in Iraq—might find Romteck’s heat stress monitor useful. The gadget, which is a miniature weather station, can predict whether your body is in danger of collapsing due to excess heat and humidity. It also works on buildings to measure airflow in partitioned offices and for health inspectors to assess food outlets for food regulations, and you can even use it as a stand-alone weather station.

The only question Gizmodo readers are really interested in, though, is, Jason, will you be pantsing this one? – Ad Dugdale
