Welcome to Second Opinion, a semi-regular post where Giz AU offers its own perspective of a gadget the US guys have already reviewed. Today, Sony’s taco-shaped Tablet P goes under the review-o-scope.
With all the competition in the Android tablet space, we’re seeing more Wi-Fi only models — the Asus Transformer Prime comes immediately to mind. Tablet makers argue it helps keep costs down and it’s easy to tether from our smartphones, but it’s always nice to have the option. So I’m glad to see Sony bringing the 3G version of its 9.4-inch Tablet S slate to Australia, alongside a single 3G version of the folding, twin 5.5-inch screen Tablet P. Both hit stores mid-next week.
Ahh, the Tablet P. It’s not a taco. It’s the Android-powered cousin of the 9.5-inch Sony Tablet S. Gizmodo has written a lengthy first-look of the uniquely designed P, but I also spent a little time with it here at CES and captured this video for you. It’ll be upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich when it arrives worldwide sometime in 2012.
I really love Sony for trying something truly different. Between this foldable tablet and their indescribably shaped (but very palmable) Tablet S they are genuinely trying to differentiate through hardware. But enough congratulations, how good is it?
