If you live and breathe sport, then Channel Nine’s new app, Nine Extra, looks like it’ll be an automatic download. It lets you watch in-game highlights and on demand replays shortly after live broadcast on Channel Nine. And it’s set to make it’s official debut right before the next State of Origin match.
The first Rugby League State of Origin match is on tonight, but if you were hoping to enjoy the game live in glorious HD, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Channel 9 is only broadcasting the match in standard definition, with HD purists having to wait until 10:30 for the replay of Fox Sports HD.
Back in February, Chris Barrett at the SMH told us that the NRL was looking at trialling 3D broadcasts of big matches this year. Today he’s back, confirming not only that the State of Origin will be filmed in 3D, but that Channel Nine will also be broadcasting the interstate matches in 3D for anyone who’s picked up a new 3D TV set.
