The Dirtsurfer: New Bike And Skateboard Hybrid Thing

Posted by Matt Hickey at 1:00 PM on August 23, 2008

It's part bike and part skateboard and it looks all fun. It's the Freestyle Dirtsurfer and it's a new hybrid like toy for all of you X Games types who can't wait for winter to get here soon enough. One neat touch is a Razor-scooter-like brake on the back wheel so you don't end up in the ER the first time you try it on a downhill. And for US$450, you really don't want to crash it too much. SoulArc Skateboard Has One Big Spring for Surf-Alike Goodness

Posted by Kit Eaton at 8:50 PM on August 22, 2008

There's something about the simplicity of a skateboard that keeps designers coming back to revisit it... but the SoulArc board certainly seems a worthy reinvention. It's designed to make skateboarding feel more like surfing, with a huge leaf-spring mounted between its long deck and the wheels: And it's less unwieldy-looking than this previous effort. As you dig your heel in, the spring relaxes into corners, giving you more of a surfing-through-waves feeling. There's a video of the board in action after the gallery.

X-Games Branded iPod Skateboard Speakers Are Extreme to the Max Shelving

Posted by Jack Loftus at 3:00 AM on July 28, 2008

I ripped a sick backside fakie 360 ollie and shotgunned a Mountain Dew when I saw this US$179 X-Games skateboard shelf and iPod stereo today. Then I cranked some All American Rejects just for good measure and sighed heavily. The sounds of pure emo moods spewed forth from the player's two 5" speakers, and I quickly fired off an abbreviated text message to my friend sitting on the couch next to me about how much I hated my parents and materialism. My vial of midnight black hair dye vibrated with barely contained malice for our consumer society on the skateboard shelf above. It was just another Sunday. [PB Teen via 7 Gadgets]

Skate Down The Mountain With The Fuse Snowskate

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 10:21 AM on May 26, 2008

Fuse outdoor.jpg

While the team from Giz in the US is all excited about the coming of summer, here at Giz AU, we're starting to get pumped for the snow season. Especially when we woke up the other day and it was a miserly 2 degrees - when it's that frickin' cold, there may as well be snow on the ground.

The Fuse Snowskate is like a skateboard for snow. As you can see from the picture above, there are four miniature skis on the bottom that let you glide across the finest white powder (or the packed, manmade stuff at Australian resorts), like an angel with attitude.

Unlike a snowboard, there are no bindings or boots needed - just a touch of skill, a penchant for daring, and a lack of fear for the wellbeing of your testicles as you attempt to grind your way down a railing, only to fall off, legs askew on either side and your manhood making its way slowly up through your lower intestine to hide out somewhere near your spleen.

Yeah, thinking about it, if you want to give one of these a go this snow season, best wear a box.

You can pick one up for $262.90 from Funky Barry. If you want to see it in action, check the clip below:

Upcoming Xbox 360 Skateboard Controller Lets You Shred, Fight The Man, Retake Geometry For the Third Time

Posted by Jason Chen at 7:00 AM on May 2, 2008

Actiga's partnering with Microsoft to make officially sponsored third-party wireless peripherals, the first of which is a skateboard controller. It's going to be compatible with the latest skating games, presumably, but there haven't been any compatibility announcements yet. What Actiga is going to follow this up with is unclear, but we'd think maybe a gun controller for all the FPS games, or a...yeah there's pretty much mostly shooter games on the 360. [Kotaku]

Photo Light Skateboard Enables 24-Hour SK8 Fanaticism

Posted by Charlie White at 2:34 AM on January 12, 2008

photon-light-boards.jpgOkay SK8rZ, save up your mum's pennies, because here comes the Photo Light Skateboard, lighting up sidewalks and metal stair railings with enough LEDs to illuminate that Christmas tree sitting on the curb. Between 29 and 54 LEDs draw attention to you, but it'll cost you $US110 - 200 for the privilege of riding atop all the falderal. [BeSportier]

GroundSurf Electric Skateboard, Controlled by a Bluetooth Phone

Posted by Charlie White at 2:02 AM on November 14, 2007

surfboard_bluetooth.jpgGroundSurf is a three-wheeled skateboard with an unusual twist: You can control it with a Bluetooth phone. It's driven by an electric motor between the two front wheels, and you can either remotely control its speed with your Bluetooth phone or lean forward to accelerate, backward to slow down or brake. But its designers, Paris-based company Ratleads, say it's not a skateboard at all, but a surfboard.

One of the inventors of GroundSurf, Stephane Pelletier, says GroundSurf gives you "that surf feeling," but on the ground. He explained, "It's been tested and developed with professional surfers. The back is a very specific truck that moves in different dimensional ways. Compared to a skateboard, it's not moving the same way at all. You really have to try it to believe it."

The GroundSurf will first roll out in 2008, distributed by California surf brand Gordon & Smith for retail price of between $1770 in $2040. [GroundSurf, via BlueTomorrow]

iSlide is a Segway/Skateboard Combo Concept

Posted by Adam Frucci at 1:15 AM on September 20, 2007

islide.jpgWe all know that Segways are far from cool, but skateboards generally do meet the requirements for things that we'd be seen on in public. What happens if you combine the two? You get the iSlide concept, a weird-looking skateboard loaded up with fuel cells and the balancing mechanism of a Segway. You'll need at least some balance to ride it, but it does sound like fun. I'm still not sold on how cool it'll make you look, but as long as photos of Woz playing polo on it don't come out, it should stay at least a few steps above the original Segway if it ever officially comes out. Wii Skateboard Lacks Motion Sensing (Has Rumble)

Posted by Jason Chen at 5:00 AM on August 31, 2007

If you're a big Wii fan—and who isn't, what with Nintendo selling more units than there are grains of rice in my lunch—this black market Wii Skateboard should be just the thing for your after-school shenanigans. It's not only somewhat shaped like a Wiimote, it even has all the correct buttons and fake LED lights to denote that you're the first player. You'd just better get yours before Nintendo decides to sue. [Kotaku]

Forget about that RipStik thing. Here's the Carver Skateboard Ultimate Surfing Truck System attached to a real surf board. See it in action as this guy goes down the streets of San Francisco like if he was at Ehukai Beach.
