G1 (a.k.a. Dream) sized up against the iPhone and HTC’s Touch Pro: it’s a kinda half-way house between them both. It’s narrower, but taller and fatter—thanks to the slide-out keyboard—and lacks the deftly curved shape of the iPhone 3G, but it’s a shade skinnier than the Touch Pro. Looks it’d fit pretty comfortably in the palm. Check out the hands on to find out how it really feels.
French Gadget Site GeekInc, got an early HTC Touch HD unit to play with, and took a bunch of pics to show for it, including a couple of size comparisons against the iPhone. As you can see, they’re pretty much the same size, save for some backend tapering. Their own impressions more or less coincide with our own hands-on, in that TouchFlo was super smooth, the screen was huge, and it appears the Touch HD camera handles low light pretty well. Tall and slender like the first generation, curved a bit like the second generation, with the bigger screen of the third generation: the new iPod nano is clearly a product of its ancestry. And it’s no longer a stubby fatty, with Jobs himself calling it the “thinnest iPod ever”—helped a bit by those curves. Most of us can size up the functionality of a phone from its spec sheet, but a phone’s practicality, usability and enjoyability falls to a whole other series of factors. Form factor is a biggie. In this clip, you’ll see the Treo Pro literally sized up against the smartphone competition (including the Palm Centro, Motorola Q9H, the BlackBerry Bold, the iPhone 3G, the HTC Touch Diamond and more. Mr Tan from Songyuan city, China, claims to have built the world’s largest mobile phone. The mobile phone stands 3-ft high and weighs in at 21kg and is 620 times bigger than his own, normal-sized mobile phone, which he used as a model for the gigantic, pointless and generally fantastic handset.
Whatever diet LG put the enV to whip it into the enV2 is fan-freakin-tastical. It’s significantly slimmer, sharper and lighter. What’s sweet about the midget dust magic is that it isn’t smaller and sexed up just to be smaller, it actually feels much better in your hand than the blubbery original. But the keys are a smidge bigger, so it’s easier to type on than the original enV to boot.
Sprint’s Instinct is so special the carrier is holding its own super special event. Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite finished baking, so the full feature set wasn’t entirely ready to go—we had to visit different “stations” to check out each feature individually to keep us from diving too deep. The iPhone-challenging visual voicemail, for instance, ain’t quite live. Plus, it locked up when I was messing around with the music store, and needed a hard reset for the more money shot voice command features, which still didn’t quite work (or finding a McDonald’s is just too much). And the web browser doesn’t, um, touch mobile Safari, at least not in its present state.
Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but here’s the final take on the subject of Mr Macbook Air’s comparative girth, including not only the Dell m1330 and Sony Vaio TZ again (Little Big Red and Lil’ EVDOFace), but also the 15-inch Macbook Pro (Sled Zero), the 13-inch Macbook (Spare Tire), and Apple’s last real subnotebook: The PowerPC driven 12-inch Powerbook (Silver Pup). What, you don’t name your laptops? UPDATE: Added TiVo remote, CD case, Blu-ray movie case, and iPhone. What else should we compare it to?
Here’s how the Helio Fin, the thinnest clamshell in the US, stacks up against other equally thin phones. As you can see, it’s pretty much the same thickness as the iPhone, which is amazing since the Fin actually flips open. It’s slightly thinner than the HTC Touch, and is dwarfed by the bulge-tastic HTC Ocean. More Sizemodo after the jump.
