By lowering the price to $129, Apple has made a bold thrust into the living room, proclaiming, “This is the streamer for the masses.” But, ho, masses! Should you add this relatively inexpensive box to your increasingly cluttered TV system?
The Boxee Box is really, finally on its way, and you’ll be able to pre-order it today for $US220. One quick switch-up before they’re out the door: The boxes will house Intel Atom processors instead of NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipsets.
On the day the new Apple TV was announced, Boxee decided to give itself a price: $US199. That’s a solid benjamin over the Apple TV but Boxee thinks giving users the freedom to watch whatever they want to watch is worth the extra cost. It might be. [Boxee via CrunchGear]
Logitech’s Revue, their set-top-box Google TV machine, just hit the FCC and got all of its parts documented. That it’s powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Atom processor and 4GB RAM isn’t surprising, but the fact that it has a built-in fan is.
Google’s upcoming set top box won’t replace what you’ve already got, VideoNuze has reportedly been told by sources. Instead, it’ll daisy-chain between the boxes and the TV via HDMI, bringing the best of the web to your TV.
There isn’t a whole lot we don’t already now about the Boxee Box, the set-top box developed by D-Link and media centre software company Boxee which stands to basically ruin the set-top box party for every other player. Except, that is, the price: Initial reports had it pegged at $US200; now a needlessly cryptic press release puts it “under $US200″.
