Rumours of a RED DSLR had been confirmed a long time ago, but what of the Scarlet and EPIC übercamcorders? On the REDUser forums, RED CEO Jim Jannard has explained it all: Scarlet and EPIC are the DSLR — all cameras are “part of the same DSMC system”, so each and every camera will be part of a modular, build-your-own, still and video product line based on the Scarlet and EPIC ‘Brains’. We already knew Red was going to totally revise its Epic and Scarlet cameras, and there was a rumour about a Red DLSR too: but Jim Jannard—Red’s CEO—has just popped up on the RedUser forums and confirmed that there’s going to be an announcement about the new Epics and Scarlets on November 13th. And if that news alone isn’t interesting enough, get what Jim has to say about it:
The high definition wizards at RED have a new design update on their Red Scarlet HD Pocket Pro, their handy high definition camera priced under US$3,000, which can shoot 3k resolution 120fps video. The rumoured Sidekick Slide Scarlet (read: red edition) is available now from T-Mobile. It’s just about the same as the regular Sidekick Slide, with myFaves support, QVGA display, microSD slot, 1.3-megapixel camera and all the Sidekick features that kids love. The phone’s only major difference is the colour Scarlet, and unlike the similarly-named actress, can be yours for just US$199 with two-year contract. [T-Mobile]
We weren’t the only ones fooled by LG’s Scarlet TV that masqueraded as a TV series. LG managed to convince Hollywood’s red carpet-loving “starlets” to come out as well, thinking that it was for the premiere of some show made by a Smallville and Sopranos director.
