There’s nothing like a good, firm handshake. Especially when it’s with a robot, and you’re in space. Yesterday, NASA’s Robonaut completed its systems checks aboard the International Space Station — and celebrated with a handshake.
Robonaut, the robot now living inside the International Space Station. I find his tweets disturbing, especially this one after his awakening: “ISS, you are looking good this morning.” Maybe it’s because it reminds me of the aesthetic of Alien.
With the Space Shuttle Discovery’s STS-133 launch delayed for the time being, this poor humanoid, Robonaut 2, gets thrown back into storage. Though I gotta admit, his storage crate looks foamy and almost comfortable.
Back in the ’60s, astronauts had to compete with monkeys to make their way into space. Today, NASA and GM have developed a new trainable, expendable crew member. Its name is Robonaut2.
