Imagine the scene. It’s late. It’s dark. You’ve had a bit to drink. You’re happily dancing away in a world of your own, staring at the big screen. Then up comes your face with Aphex Twin’s demonic branding over it. More »
Next time you’re headed to a rave and want some additional protection when things start to heat up, consider throwing a pair of these Rind disposable earplugs alongside that other well-known wallet-based protection. And because these plugs lie flat like a credit card when not in use, there will be no embarrassing ring-shaped mark pushing its way through the leather when it comes time to pay for drinks at the bar. When you’re done, the plugs collapse and store back in the card, and remain effective for “several months” (instructions below). Try doing that with used latex!
Another reason I’m glad I was never a rave kiddie whenever it was trendy in the US: Trippy lasers beamed into your eyes will blind you. A gaggle of Russian ravers at the July 5 Aquamarine Open Air Festival discovered this after tents erected to deflect heavy rains partially refracted lasers intended for skyward illumination into their eyes, resulting in nastiness: “Retinal burns, scarring is visible on them. Loss of vision in individual cases is as high as 80 percent, and regaining it is already impossible.” Ouch. Strangely, this makes me want to watch Go. [Reuters via Geekologie]
newVideoPlayer("raveteaserhd_gizmodo.flv", 494, 297,""); I don’t know what’s more terrifying about the new Rave 450-class electric helicopter—which the experts say is the fastest electric RC helicopter in the world: the fact that it buzzes like an angry giganormous killer wasp who just got three speeding tickets driving a Ferrari on a coke overdose, or the fact that it looks like it can chop your head faster that you can say “325mm or 350mm blades.” (Video updated—was missing the sound.) Moritz Waldemeyer, London-based shiny, spangly design person, has designed what must be the most expensive pair of spoke lights evah. Auctioned off at the ICA Gala Fundraiser in London last week, the Joyrider LEDs, which put a smile on the wheels of your bike, went for almost US$4,000. Perhaps that’s because they came attached to a couple of vintage-style bikes that Waldemeyer has designed.
