Can You Recognise These Products Even Without Their Branding?

Some products are so ingrained into the mushy greyness of our brains that we can spot their branding on just the shape of the product alone. It’s kinda sick, isn’t it? Within half a second, you already knew that that packet above was Heinz ketchup.

Is Product Placement Better When It’s About Gadgets?

Alan Wake (fantastically entertaining game) is one of the more conspicuous about in-game advertising. Hell, they even work products into the gameplay itself. Penny Arcade’s take on this is only slightly exaggerated, if you can believe it.

Apple’s 3D Modeler Opening Could Be Your Dream Job

Not to turn this into a secondary job board for Apple or anything, but they’re opening up a position for a digital 3D modeler/CAD sculptor to create renderings of possible and future products. It’s interesting because the turnover there for the position is really low, and it may be the only time you get a chance to get into that position for a few years. A Look Inside the Consumer Reports Gadget Testing Dungeons

BoingBoing Gadgets took a field trip to tour some of Consumer Reports’ electronics testing facilities, where they found a perfect physical manifestation of everything that the magazine feels like: middle-aged men giving droll, monotone speeches about methodology in a series of depressing rooms, each containing a minimalist, utilitarian testing apparatus. And mannequins. While it’s interesting to see what bizarre contraptions they’ve contrived to test gadgets, it’s hard not to notice how dated and bloated the whole system feels. Check out the full video tour at the source link. [BBG]
