Forget for a minute the fact that cleaning this Australian-made and designed pool table would be an absolute bitch and just admire its gorgeous industrial styling. Created from the ground up by Adelaide-based Industrial designer Craig Nottage and featuring a glass table topped with a patented transparent surface called Vitrik which mimics traditional felt, the G-1 table is as stunning as a pool table is ever likely to find. I know. LED-illuminated pool table. You don’t really need much more information to justify the $US700 that you are going to spend on it. Each pocket illuminates with blue LEDs. That’s it. Done. Here’s my credit card. But in case you need more, the six-feet pool table converts into a card playing table and a “dining table”.
Kudos to the design team at the UK-based firm Freshwest for putting a fresh, humourous spin on the concept of what a pool table should be. What they have developed is actually a coffee table constructed out of 50mm acrylic that reflects and refracts light “in such a way that it resembled the depth and hue of an actual swimming [pool] .” It even features a miniature diving board on one end to complete the effect. Unfortunately, there is no word on whether this will ever become available to the public. Seems like too good of an idea to remain in the prototype stage if you ask me.
Everybody knows that no real bachelor pad is complete without a pool table, but if you want f@$#ing awesome bachelor pad status, you gotta have it rise from the floor James Bond-style. This ridiculous mod uses a side-sliding trap door in the floor and a hydraulic lift to make a pool table appear where there was none before.
