You get full customisation of the pizza, plus the ability to track your order and know when it’s being made and when it’s en route. You can select anything from the Dominos menu, including pasta and desserts.

The app is a free download. Definitely worth checking out if you eat Domino’s pizza.

Fun fact: I spent a couple of months after I finished school working at Pizza Hut’s call centre. It wasn’t fun. If only there was an iPhone app for ordering Pizza back in the heady days of 1998, maybe I’d still eat Pizza Hut. Maybe I wouldn’t. In any case, Pizza Hut Australia has announced that it plans on releasing a version of their hugely successful US iPhone ordering app here in Australia.

When, you ask? In the coming months, they say. But will it be as entertaining and fun as the US app, you ask? Apparently so, according to their press release:

The Australian app will be as entertaining and as much fun to use as the U.S. app which features a virtual fridge and a free racing game to play while you wait for your pizza.

I for one can’t wait. What about you?

Pizza Hut announces iPhone app and 3G mobile ordering service
Today Pizza Hut Australia announced it will launch an iPhone app and 3G mobile phone ordering service in the Australian market within the coming months.

The Pizza Hut iPhone app has already been a huge success in the U.S., where there were 150,000 downloads in just 30 days.

Locally, interest in the Pizza Hut iPhone app is hot even before the local version is available, with Australians already attempting to download the U.S. app in the days after it launched.

“There’s an appetite for the Pizza Hut app here and we’re thrilled to be bringing this to Australian pizza lovers. Along with our clever new 3G mobile phone ordering service, it’s never been more fun and convenient to order and enjoy delicious Pizza Hut meals,” said Pizza Hut Australia Marketing Director Valerie Kubizniak.

The U.S. iPhone has impressed not only consumers but the digital industry, receiving rave reviews online and scoring a prestigious MOBI award in New York this month.

In fact, Apple itself has featured the Pizza Hut app in its own advertising!

The Australian app will be as entertaining and as much fun to use as the U.S. app which features a virtual fridge and a free racing game to play while you wait for your pizza.

Kubizniak added Pizza Hut’s soon-to-arrive 3G mobile phone ordering service was another major digital investment for the company that would change the way people ordered their food.

“We have some brilliant new digital innovations to talk about in the coming months – it’s an exciting time,” she said.

Pizza Hut has just unveiled its new iPhone App, one that lets you order food as well as, uh, play a racing game.

This app does what you’d expect it to do — order pizza and wings — while also making full use of the iPhone’s functionality to gimmicky effect. When you order wings, for example, you need to shake your phone to get the wings covered in sauce. Cool?

And there’s “Hut Racer,” a basic-looking racing game that they tacked on there to trick you into opening the app more and then randomly deciding to order a pizza.

But hey, in the end, this is another way to order food without having to interact with another human being, so I’m all for it.

(AU: You can download the app here, but it only actually works for US customers, which seems kinda stupid. I’d never eat Pizza Hut anyway, so meh.)

Called the Green Box, the top is perforated so it easily breaks into four plates in which you could serve everyone’s favourite food. Meanwhile, the bottom is also perforated so you can fold it into a new box that conveniently fits in your refrigerator.
The pizza machine has all the Italian chefs up in arms—and I can’t blame them. After all, can it make a Bacon Cheese Pizza Burger? It can’t.

Created by Claudio Torghele with some technology developed at the University of Bologna, it does it all. Mixes the flour and water into dough, makes the base, adds the tomato sauce, and finally puts the toppings on top. The whole process takes three minutes, thanks to the use of infrared rays. You can imagine the results. According to Torghele:

This is not just a vending machine, it’s a mini-pizzeria. It has windows where you can watch the pizza-making process. Kids, including my own, love it: when the machine is working, there’s always a crowd.

According to me:

It’s a disgrace.

Oh well, at least one of the toppings is bacon. [Reuters]

How direct do the quotes get? One simply states, “This place sucks.”

I’ve found that Yelp (and similar sites) have been a pretty reliable means of finding good food in an unfamiliar city. But just like letters to the editor, it’s usually the most upset or ecstatic people who will find the need to vent publicly about the experience.

In other words, I’d love to see a few “the pizza ensured a prosperous life for my child!” quotes as a counterpoint.
