Letter from Optimus Prime’s Geico Insurance Agent

10:30AM Seamus Byrne | Did you ever wonder who covered the damage when Optimus and Megatron face off? McSweeney’s intercepted this letter from Optimus Prime’s insurance agent notifying him of his policy increase to $235,567.50. Since becoming a GEICO customer in January of this year, you have reported 131 accidents, requesting reimbursement for repairs necessitated by each one. You have claimed not to be responsible in any of them, usually listing the cause of the accident as either “Sneak attack by Decepticons” or “Unavoidable damage caused by protecting freedom for all sentient beings.” [McSweeney's via Danny D.] More »

iSmudginator Allows Defacement of Virtual iPhone

10:30AM Seamus Byrne | The iSmudgeinator is a cute little Flash app that lets you wreak minor havoc upon an iPhone. Smudging doesn’t seem to be as bad as this time-killer suggests, but some degree of the “answer phone” ear grease smudging is likely to occur. Some scratches are probably inevitable as well, although you’d have to deliberately etch your artwork into the screen to match the severity your e-finger can lay down on this unlucky model. The latest version even comes with an iCloth to clean up after yourself. The iSmudginator [via Technabob] More »

Boomerang-Shaped Microsoft oPhone Takes Cellphone World by Storm

11:15PM Seamus Byrne | Behold the Microsoft oPhone. “This phone breaks every paradigm we’ve ever had,” earnestly intones the Microsoft employee on this video spoof shown at Mix ‘07, a conference held by Microsoft for Web designers, developers and decision-makers in Las Vegas last week. Judging from this video, it looks like the company might just have a sense of humor. Breaking paradigms? That’s about the only truth about the oPhone, a goofy phantasyFone that’s sure to blow all those other boomerang-shaped cellphones out of the water. If they’d just equip the thing with 3G connectivity rather than the iPhone designers’ choice of the woefully slow EDGE network, many people would like it better than the iPhone, no matter how crazy and unusable it is. – Charlie White The Windows Mobile oPhone Video [InsideMicrosoft] More »

I’m Apple and I’m Microsoft: British Comics Take on Gates and Jobs

7:25PM Seamus Byrne | A new sketch show from the BBC, Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul, takes off Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. It rather makes Apple’s current Mac vs PC ads look like outtakes from a Frasier episode. Given their pedigrees, Paul Whitehouse (he did The Fast Show) and Harry Enfield (er, he didn’t), the comics behind the skit, could have done better. Nice sweaters, though. –Ad Dugdale More »
