Palm’s Sugar Daddy Serves Up Another Load of iPhone Trash Talk

Roger McNamee, the long-haired, gadget belt-wearing founder of Elevation Partners investment group implied that the Palm Pre—in which he’s investing in—will make iPhone owners switch over when their contracts expire in June.

Bloomberg writes:

“You know the beautiful thing: June 29, 2009, is the two- year anniversary of the first shipment of the iPhone,” McNamee said today in an interview in San Francisco. “Not one of those people will still be using an iPhone a month later.”

While this may or may not have some validity (the Pre is a beautiful phone), Boss McNamee omitted a couple of details about his potential iPhone killer here: a fair amount of initial iPhone buyers almost certainly upgraded to the iPhone 3G last summer (new two year contract!), and they won’t all switch to the Pre. Sony Ericsson Planning to Offer Unlimited Music Service

Following on the heels of its main rival Nokia, Sony Ericsson’s allegedly also planning an unlimited music downloading service for its Walkman-branded mobile phones. According to the Financial Times, Sony Ericsson is in discussions with all major labels about a rival tunes subscription service.

The company is purportedly hoping to announce its all-you-can-eat music product before the end of September, with a launch date in Europe before Christmas. Right now, Walkman phones function on a pay-per-track business model, with roughly 5 million un-DRM-ed songs available. If its unlimited service is similarly DRM-free, it might have a chance at one-upping Nokia’s Comes With Music buffet after all. One can only hope. [Financial Times]

Criminal Voyeur Hides Mobile Phone Up Butt To Escape From Cops

BoingBoing found this story of a mobile phone camera voyeur trying to snap pics of a naked gal at a tanning salon before someone called the cops on him. This wouldn’t be interesting at all except for the fact that when the cops came, the guy kept denying that he did anything until the cops searched him twice and found a mobile phone jammed up his rectum. Did the cops confiscate his phone? Did they force him to delete those pics? How many megapixels was the cameraphone? The Smoking Gun coming up short on this one. [Smoking Gun via Boing Boing]

Are You Going to Get the iPhone 3G?

Giz camp is divided. Some here are going to get the new iPhone 3G because of the new speed, the GPS, and, hummm… ahh… new design? Whatever. Others will not get it. I belong to the latter camp. I was really expecting more storage, at least 32GB. Or 64GB. I would have been happy to pay for it. And what about a new camera? Anyway, since I can live a little longer without 3G, I’ll wait for that. But what about you? Are you going to get the new iPhone 3G? Tell us in the comments.

Did you know your teens are swapping naked pictures of themselves with their dates? We’ve got a few questions about how widespread this is—mainstream news sites love to take a few cases of anything and pretend it’s an epidemic—but it is an interesting enough topic for us to look into. You know, teen nakedness.

According to Fox News, police detectives have “seen everything from your basic striptease to sexual acts being performed.” Our new favourite job ever? Being the evidence inspector on teen naked picture swapping cases.

“A lot more girls are aggressive,” said Ray, 18. “Some girls are crazy and they are putting themselves out there.”

And then…

Male teens are also doing it.
For instance, a central Ohio high school teen made a sexual cell phone video of himself and sent it to female classmates. One of the girls forwarded the Westerville South High School’s video to at least 30 other people.
