Make a Blue Laser Gun Out of the Corpse of an HD-DVD Drive

newVideoPlayer("/bluelasergiz.flv", 506, 423,"");Instructables has posted a guide for how to yank the blue diode out of a dusty Xbox 360 HD-DVD player and attach it to a (fake) gun to create…. a laser gun! It’s a pretty easy little mod, if you have the equipment lying around (and a laser gun sight you don’t use), and when you’re done, you’ve got a blue laser pistol powerful enough to light a match or pop a balloon. Firestrike: World’s First Solid-State Battlefield Laser Now Available

Get ready for some real pew pew, because Northrop Grumman has just announced that the first ever high-energy, solid-state lethal laser for actual war applications is now available for ordering. This means that you can pay now a few millions and get yours for Xmas. The new Firestrike units offer 15 kilowatts of power, but can be combined to offer 100 kilowatts of technological terror, capable of actually destroying the enemy. According to the company, this new laser “changes the game” of military engagement. Nobody would say by judging the neutral looks of it:

Tuner Adds Fake ‘Vrooom’ and ‘Pew Pew’ Sounds to Tesla Roadsters

Popular Mercedes tuner Brabus has designed a Tesla modding package which adds — among other things — fake engine sounds to make up for the Roadster’s silent electric motor. You can opt for a traditional v-8 engine sound, a race car sound or even two “futuristic landscape” settings that may or may not make your Tesla sound like George Jetson’s spacewagon. You also get a few trim additions, some interior tweaks and, oh god, groundlighting. The whole package might be gaudy, but the fake engine sounds take the tacky cake. I’ll say it: they’re the electric supercar equivalent of spinner hubcaps. [NextAutos]

Wind Turbine Laser System Detects Gusts Before They Arrive

A startup company named ‘Catch the Wind’ has developed a product that could increase the efficiency of wind turbines by up to ten percent. Currently, wind turbines lose one percent of their operating efficiency for every degree that the blades are out of alignment with the oncoming wind. The ‘Vindicator’ fibre-optic laser system can sense air particle movement about 300 metres out from the turbine itself then relay that information to the turbine control system. There, blade angle adjustments are made to take advantage of the prevailing winds.

New Laser Cinema Projectors Offer Superior Picture Quality, Increased Pew Pew Factor

The Economist has a great piece about researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences have developed a digital cinema projector that uses lasers as the main display technology. In doing so, these projectors are able to display a staggering 80 percent of the colour range visible to the human eye. Previously, the 60 percent range that 35mm film offered was considered the benchmark for other projectors and displays to measure themselves up against.

Homemade Mega Man Costume Looks Just as Good as the Real Thing

Kevin is an awesome dad. Because only a truly awesome dad would make a completely amazing Mega Man costume for his son, complete with light-up mega blaster. Sure, his kid was definitely not around when Mega Man was originally released, but I’m sure he’s enjoyed dying over and over and over again in Mega Man 9 just like the rest of us.

Here’s the first look at the final version of the deadly XM25. We learnt this morning about the weapon’s destructive power, but now we have all the details, starting with the key for its destruction power, a built-in fire-control system that can program each of the weapon’s 25 millimeter rounds wirelessly, in real time, so soldiers can take down enemies around obstacles:
