Amazon Stabs Penguin In The Throat With Ebook Pricing For Real Books

Amazon? Not playing around with publishers when it comes to ebook deals. Penguin’s contract ran out on April 1, so Amazon’s can’t sell their ebooks. So they’ve cut the price of Penguin’s actual hardcovers to $US9.99 ebook pricing.

iPad Could Be Sold Without iBooks In Non-US Countries At Launch

Bad luck, non-US countries. iBooks won’t be available from launch in any country other than the US. That could mean Apple’s still to finesse the licensing details with book publishers in each country, or you’re just plain out of luck.

Pingo The Robot Penguin Is A Facebook Friend Who Doesn’t Mind Being Poked

POMI Robot is R2D2 Trapped in the Body of a Penguin

Korean researchers have developed POMI, a penguin-looking robot that is able to see, hear, touch and smell. But even cooler, are its R2D2 qualities, which include flashing LEDs and a built-in projector for video playback. In addition, the robot has rudimentary facial expressions, a camera, a display screen, and the ability to speak in short phrases. To top things off, POMI has a mechanism to replicate a heartbeat that can be felt when you touch its case, and also emits “scent sprays to express happiness, sadness, and joy.” Um, is there a difference between happiness and joy? Penguin to Launch Ebooks Alongside Regular Releases

The international publisher, Penguin, has decided to hop onto the ebook bandwagon, by promising regular book launches to be held in conjunction with their ebook counterparts. Unfortunately, the prices will not be lowered for the ebook varieties, but Penguin will offer direct downloads from their website.
