Sharp Uses Its Glasses-Less 3D Screens In Two Android Phones For Japan

A few months back I tried out a glasses-less 3D prototype from Sharp, where the cameraphone took “3D” photos and made them pop out in their parallax barrier screens. That tech’s now in two Android phones – for Japan, anyway.

Sharp’s Parallax Barrier Tech, 3D Camera Seen In The Flesh

Glasses-less 3DTV sounds like the greatest invention ever, right? But secretly, I think we were all worried it would look quite rubbish. After a lengthy session with Sharp’s parallax barrier technology, I can say chin up! It’s not that bad.

Toshiba Working On Glasses-Less 3DTV Using Parallax Barrier Technology

Sharp was first out the door with its parallax barrier technology, which is apparently being used in the Nintendo 3DS, to skirt around wearing glasses when viewing 3D. Toshiba’s now got a similar 21-inch display which also doesn’t require glasses.

Hitachi Working On Glasses-Less 3D LCD

Another company has fallen down the glasses-less 3DTV route. Hitachi’s going to use Sharp’s parallax barrier technology (supposedly used in the Nintendo 3DS and that mysterious StreamTV panel) on some mean LCDs, hopefully just as slim as their previous models.
