Useful when you’re transporting organs and not MP3 players.

Senseaware is going to be using these sensors in the medical transport field, who distribute organs on a regular basis, and offer it as a simple drop-in addition to the package. How this affects you is that FedEx is working on lowering the price so that not-so-essential packages can also get the same detailed tracking.
Unlike the Open X or the Plastic Surgeon before it, the ZipIt is battery operated, so it should be able to make quick work of blister or clamshell packaging with almost no physical effort. It costs a lot more than the other versions, but if you are willing to pay a laziness premium, the ZipIt can be had for $US25. [wrapragerelief]

I discovered that this happens with Fedex too.

Backstory first. A package supposedly was left on my doorstep on a Friday, or at least its delivery status claimed. Nothing was there. The next week goes by. Nothing shows up. Monday rolls around, my doorbell rings, and a guy’s standing there with my package.

Some anonymous Fedex employee scanned the entirety of his truck and claimed he left those items on people’s doorsteps, reported another Fedex driver who had to eventually come and clean up his mess. “He doesn’t work for us anymore,” said the man, subconsciously hoping to convince me not to go with UPS in the future.

I can see regular mailmen doing it, since very few people will miss another credit card offer or a Pennysaver or a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath & Beyond. But Fedex? Like there aren’t tracking numbers on most of those packages?

The guys at Eljo Media Solutions reckon they’ve got a great deal for you, based around the Popcorn Hour A-110 Network media player. The A110 is an upgraded version of the A-100 that we saw back in February last year, adding both 2.5 and 2.5-inch drive support, HDMI spec 1.3a (for HD audio), and reconfigured ports.

The package included the Popcorn Hour streamer, a 1TB WD HDD, a Popcorn Hour Wi-Fi dongle, a HDMI cable and free shipping, all for $570. Considering that the streamer itself costs $339, that’s a pretty good deal.

There’s only 100 of these packages available though, and you need to pre-order before May 1 to even have a chance of getting one. If you do end up jumping on this deal, let us know what you think of it…
