Whole New MeeGo Surfaces In Fancy Oak Trail Tablet

MeeGo sure has changed a lot since when we first got a good look at it, and regardless of how you feel about the changes, lets hope that the adjustments indicate a broad release is near. And in the meantime, let’s sit back and appreciate our first look at the Oak Trail (Atom Z670 1.5GHz processor) reference tablet that the MeeGo’s running on.

Intel’s inability to crack the mobile market has been a growing blemish on their record, an increasingly sore spot that’s seen the processor giant sit out the biggest new product category since the laptop. Sure, there have been tablets with Intel inside, but they’ve been solidly second-rate battery suckers. So how will intel catch up? By throwing Moore’s law out the window, and upgrading its Atom processor at unprecedented speeds.

Intel “Oak Trail” Is Official: Tablet Processors With Windows, Android, MeeGo Support

Intel’s Moorestown platform was designed to make a home in tablets and other small form factors. The only problem: no Windows support. So – as expected – Intel’s introducing Oak Trail: it’s Moorestown with Windows, and will be out early 2011.

Oak Trail Is Name Of Intel Atom Z-Series Replacement (Supposedly)

Intel is moving from conifers to deciduous trees as inspiration for its next Atom Z-series platform, if PC Watch is correct. The Z-series is residing in netbooks and ultra-portables such as the Vaio P from Sony, but with Moorestown not compatible with Windows it makes sense Intel would need a new processor.
