Yesterday, Gizmodo was one of several sites to report that Taiwanese absurdist animation studio NMA was up for sale as part of its parent company, Hong Kong-based Next Media. But not so, says NMA, in a video that seems to be a panda bear using a copy machine to poop out Tiger Woods, Steve Jobs and the President of the United States.
NMA, the Dadaist absurdo-animation studio responsible for all those ridiculous interpretations of current events, is broke. So broke it’s looking to sell itself to cover huge losses it’s been taking — Next Media as a whole is actually a massive media company. Bottom line: it’s possible we’ve seen the last glorious bit of NMA weirdness.
NMA, the absolutely weird and wacky animation group that whips up those hilariously ridiculous videos about any ‘news’ event, has released an iPad app. Called NMA.tv, the app was originally banned by Apple a few weeks ago but has now been approved.
Netflix is having themselves quite the week, and everyone’s favourite insaneo Chinese animators are here to show us how things really happened. Apparently it involved asteroids, disc-headed mutant siamese twins, laser pistols and the Insane Clown Posse. Although in fairness, that mix of ingredients would have made more sense than what actually happened.
Call me insensitive for finding this video funny if you want. Heck, you can call me an arsehole too. Whatever. I don’t care, because the only way this video could be any better is if it were real footage instead of a 3D dramatisation from Taiwan.
I feel the recent in-app purchase issue where kids are charging hundreds or thousands of dollars in fees by buying game items in real-world money can best be expressed in animated video form. Luckily, the Taiwanese are happy to oblige.
The Spider-Man musical. It’s cursed! Or at least very poorly conceived. Either way, to get cartoonishly caught up on everything that’s gone tragi-hilariously wrong with Julie Taymor’s über-expensive production of Turn Off the Dark, look no further.
