Wiimote Tennis Serve Trainer Won’t Make You Into Roger Federer
9:20PM John Herrman | The line between Wii games and the real-life activities they emulate is increasingly squiggly and faint, no thanks to people like this guy, who’s jury-rigged a tennis serve trainer out of his Wiimote. More »

Nintendo, Lucas Releasing Official Lightsaber, Blaster Wii Accessories
9:40AM Adam Frucci | There have been plenty of cheap, crappy, plastic lightsabers for the Wii before, but now there are official cheap, crappy, plastic lightsabers for the Wii. Oh joy! More »

Wii Ski and Snowboard Uses Balance Board, Looks Amazing
7:30PM John Herrman | It isn’t the first balance board-enabled ski game for the Wii, but it sure looks like it’ll be the best. With the weird and richly varied balance board hacks cropping up all over the place, it’s good — though late — for Nintendo to finally demonstrate a game that looks worthy of the device. Reggie Denies HD Wii in 2011 Rumour…Sort Of
2:45AM Sean Fallon | You know the drill. First a rumour spreads across the internet. Then an executive in the company offers up some sort of vague denial of said rumour. Time passes. An announcement is made. Guess what? The rumours were true all along. Obviously, that doesn’t happen in every situation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case with the recent rumour that an HD version of the Wii will hit the market in 2011. In a recent interview with Venture Beat, Nintendo of America Pres Reggie Fils-Aime referred to the story as “speculation” and claimed that showing a prototype to the game development community is “not the way they would find out” about a project. While this may be true, rumours tend to stick around in the absence of a flat-out denial. [Venture Beat via Crunchgear] More »

Man Controls Roomba With Wii Balance Board, Atari-Era Surfin’ USA Soundtrack
4:30AM Jack Loftus | Ron Tajima has some time on his hands. And a Roomba. And a Wii Balance Board. See where we’re going with this? Anyway, he put them all together, combined it with a Surfin’ USA track that sounds like it was ripped from the 1980’s, and now he can control the previously autonomous Roomba with his feet. “This is my third Roomba hacking,” Tajima says. “This surfin is safe, useful (it’s cleaning), and easy for nerds. Wii balance board is great!” Indeed it is, Tajima-san, indeed it is. Maybe there’s a reason for me to take the Balance Board out from underneath my TV and use it again. More »

PC gaming may be approaching dire straights at the moment, but I don’t think PC-in-a Wii casemod is going to prove to be the solution to the problem.
Enterprising modder mr.h has managed to stuff his Wii with all the necessary bits for a working PC, including a 1.3GHz Celeron CPU, 512MB RAM, and a 40GB hard drive, and has shown off his handywork on the A9VG forums. Of course those forums aren’t in English, and even running it through Google translate doesn’t help us understand the intricate details of the situation too much.

PC In A Wii Casemod Sounds Much Better Than The Other Way Around

Coloured Wiis, Redesigned DS: Coming Never
10:42PM Mark Wilson | OK, it’s a bit dramatic for us to say “coming never,” but we shouldn’t expect Wiis in multiple snazzy colours (you know, the ones promised by Nintendo when the Wii was announced) or a redesigned DS (it could be RAZR-thin!) anytime soon. Instead, it sounds like Nintendo is more focused on getting each device “into the hands of more people.” In layman’s terms, that means “making more money selling the crap that you already won’t stop buying anyway.” [IGN via Maxconsole] More »

Nintendo Says Wii Still in Short Supply This Christmas, We Call Them Out
2:00AM Jason Chen | If you read what Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said about Wii shortages this holiday season and didn’t get angry, well, you’re not paying enough attention. Forbes paraphrases him as saying “demand for the device in the U.S. is unusually high in contrast to either Europe or Asia,” which is why you might not be able to get one this Christmas. Oh really? Mysterious Wireless Guitar Hero Controller For Wii Surfaces
9:38AM Matt Hickey | A reader in Michigan sent in this image he snapped at his local Wal-Mart of a hither-to unknown controller for Guitar Hero for the Wii called the Rage. None of us have heard of it, a Google search turned up nothing, and there’s nothing on Wal-Mart’s website about it, so it’s a mystery. But it’s a sweet looking one, with the box stating it’s got the most realistic action yet, light-up LEDs on the fretboard, and a realistic looking wood-toned neck. Pretty sweet, though with the US$54.78 price tag, you pay for the good looks. Thanks, James! More »
