According to Pixmania.com's research, the speedy growth of consumer electronics and associated buzzwords and acronyms has created the "fastest growing language" in Europe. The study says it's more widely spoken than any single European language and is used by all ages. More words get added to it each year than are added to the Oxford English Dictionary. Hmmmm. What exactly is this "nerdic"? Read on for what the study suggests are the top ten words/phrases... and why we think it's all rubbish.
Sometimes, the internet opens up doors to worlds of geekery that you never knew existed. I guess I shouldn't judge people for being into whatever it is they're into as long as it doesn't intrude on my life, but… come on. Lion of the Sun makes custom animal masks and costumes that are super-realistic, featuring mouths that actually move when you talk. They're impressive, to say the least, and you can even get them with built-in night vision if you have the scratch (no pun intended). There's a huge gallery of different costumes, and you just know that they all end just before the camera turns off and there's some hot bear-on-lion furry love action. If there was ever an appropriate time for the tried-and-true "do not want" internet catchphrase, this is it.
I'm not sure who this guy was, but one thing is for sure —he was a massive nerd. Got to love that kind of commitment though. Plus, if he ever came back as a zombie you could probably stay alive by sitting him in front of a new computer with a sweet LCD monitor. [News From Gadgets World]
Remember Steven Smith, the Zune tattoo guy? Well, having promised us a third Zune tattoo for a while now, Steven has re-emerged with not only pictures of the new design but also bearing a new, slimmer body. The tattoo is the catchphrase, "Welcome to the social" and is proudly (and apparently painfully) tattooed on the back of his left shoulder. What's next, Steven? [ZuneMax]
If this Nerd Energy Drink could actually increase memory retention and "brain focus" as its makers claim, it would probably sell for $100 a can. But heck, if it makes you think you feel sharper, well, that's half the battle won already. The carbonated drink contains ingredients such as ginkgo biloba that may or may not give you more energy, but at least they've slipped a few vitamins in there, along with that trusty old standby, 80mg of caffeine.
We hear that nerds have plenty o' money, so they won't mind paying the steep price of two dollars per can for this stuff. And, you only get that deal if you buy it by the case. We're thinking a few cups of strong coffee might do just about the same thing. – Charlie WhiteProduct Site [Nerd Energy, via Sci Fi Tech]
To kick off its "TiVo Gets Me" ad campaign, the one with the funny commercials, the DVR company sent out these TiVo antenna ears along with the press release. They're felt, with TiVo Gets Me across the side, and bendable wires inside the ears.
They arrived the same day my Series 3, coincidentally, which I'm pictured with above, happily. Remember I'd put up a poll asking if I should get a monitor or a TiVo? Most of you said monitor, but I couldn't resist that $500 dealzmodo that expired last week. – Brian Lam
A new Adult Swim show entitled "Fat Guy Stuck on the Internet" is coming, and you should be excited about it. Featuring actual actors in front of a green screen, it's a step away from the standard, you know, animated fare on Cartoon Network's stoner block. However, the premise, that a "rock and roll computer programmer" gets stuck in the Internet, gets chased by a mustachioed bounty hunter named Chains, and completes a quest that references basically every sci-fi movie ever.
It's based on a Web series called "Gemberling," so if this sounds intriguing be sure to check out the originals. The original series has such guest stars as Rob Corddry from the Daily Show, Rob Heubel and Paul Scheer from Human Giant, and MC Chris from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, so it's a bit better than your standard YouTube "comedies." The originals are what resulted when a couple of comedians from UCB bought a green screen on eBay and taught themselves how to use it, so expect the Adult Swim version to be a bit more polished, but there's definitely a certain charm about the no-budget versions out there now. Check 'em out before the Cartoon Network yanks them. –Adam Frucci
Nerd housemate, Jamie, in the latest edition of Big Brother put his leet nerd skillz to work, uncovering the hidden house couple by spotting what only a geek could.
When he entered the house as a self-professed 'nerd', he was showing all the usual negative traits—overweight, socially awkward... so it was a positive leap when he used some geek-powered investigation skills to uncover the hidden pair.
