Not content to wait until it went official, an industrious Android user carved Yahoo’s forthcoming Yahoo! Messenger app out of a MyTouch ROM that leaked yesterday. It can do video calling over Wi-Fi and 3G, no sweat.
The newest myTouch iteration goes balls out with video: video chat over Wi-Fi and T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network with a front-facing camera and 720p video recording with the rear camera – shared wirelessly with any DLNA-compatible screen.
The myTouch 3G Slide could go either way: A family-friendly Android phone with an awesome Sidekick keyboard, or, much like its name, a godawful conglomeration of disjointed parts.
BGR is reporting that the Sidekick’s days at T-Mobile are numbered. While it’s speculation for now, evidence from a “briefing” indicates that the myTouch Slide will spell the eventual doom of the flippy, text-heavy (but troubled) handset.
Someone more adept at navigating the T-Mobile inventory screens than I am has discovered that the carrier’s version of the Android-packing HTC Magic might have a more official U.S. name in “MyTouch.” Hrmm.
