Mustek’s PF-E700 is yet another LCD photo frame, but with added alarm clock and indoor temperature gauge functions on a second small LCD screen at its base. The standard alarm snooze also gets an extra feature as a moody room light: you can set it so that each time you hit the snooze button you keep the frame’s backlight on. The display is a 7-inch TFT LCD with 480 x 234 pixels, it plays MP3s, AVIs and MPEGs and takes SD, SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick Pro Duo, and Compact Flash memory cards. Available in April for US$150. Mustek just rolled out its PF-i700 digital photo frame that has an integrated iPod docking station. Since digital picture frames are so hot this holiday season, perhaps the company figured it might as well ride that wave file satisfying the iPod crowd the same time.
The instant I saw the Mustek SoccerCam, I wished I could press the shell closed and kick the thing across a room. While it is a perfectly functional 2-megapixel camera that costs just $40, I wished it were more, a shock-proof video camera that could record all the dizzying action in play, like the bowling-ball cam in The Big Lebowski. If I do ever get a review unit, I know I’ll just end up punting the damn thing—so much for “hands on.” (Jump if you want to read the press release.) [Mustek] More »
If all digital photo frames are starting to look alike, try this Mustek PF-A1020BC with its big 10-inch LCD and swappable frames, coming with silver, “frosted white,” or Mahogany faceplates. Pictures should look pretty nice as the 9.5-inch viewable area displays at a 720 x 480 resolution, and you can store around 45 JPEGs thanks to the frame’s internal memory. But are the pretty colors going to be able to justify the frame’s $200 price tag?
It’s not as radical as some of Mustek’s previous offerings (like touchscreen controls), though it doesn’t do less than the competition: MP3s, slideshows, and direct transfer from a USB drive or memory card are all supported. If you’re still in the market for a digital photo frame, the PF-A1020BC is certainly one to look at. Keep an eye out for them this summer.
