Asus’s ROG XG, the “world’s first VGA and multimedia docking station” for notebooks has just been revealed in full. The “Republic of Gamer” XG comes bundled with a EN8600GT/HTDP/256M graphics card, has a built-in express card interface, Dolby sound technology which can simulate 5.1 sound through two speakers, and a four-port USB hub. And still looks neat: it’s even earned an honourable mention in this years Red Dot design awards. More info in the press release.
The day when the watch is once again a useful piece of technology is looming over us. For proof, check out Chinavasion’s Multimedia Watch, which packs in a 1.8-inch LCD (160 x 128), voice recorder, in-built loudspeaker, 8GB flash, as well as support for pretty much every media codec ever conceived. (AVI, MP4, WMV, MOV, MP3, WMA, JPEG and the list goes on.)
The Celrun TV multimedia player comes equipped to the back teeth. The HD multimedia player totes Ethernet, WiFi b/g for basic, network accessible storage; digital and analog TV tuners, IPTV support, DVR functionality, 320GB HDD, two USB ports, as well as RGB, S-VIDEO and HDMI outputs. Add to that the ability to playback H.264, WMV, AVI, Xvid, MOV, VOB, MPEG1/2/4 and a whole host of other supported codecs in between, the Celrun TV is certainly a souped up performer on paper. No idea as yet whether we’ll see it Stateside, but if it does make an appearance, we’ll be sure to let you know. [Akihabara News]
We know that iRiver has been working on its all-singing, all-dancing multimedia player-dock-thingie the Unit2 for over a year. The Apple-esque interface, its voice over IP internet telephone (yes, a telephone) and the removable 16:9 touchscreen make it look quite amazing. And expensive. We don’t know the price yet, though. Seeing the unit and the telephone in action, which unfolds to show a full QWERTY keyboard, makes it even more attractive.
We saw the Motorola Z8 before, with its banana-ish sliding body, but Motorola seems to have added some new software features since 3GSM.
For the specs, it runs Symbian OS, HSDPA, 2.2-inch screen, 30fps video, 4GB microSD card, and movies thanks to Universal, Sony and Warner. There’s also streaming video from Sky or CNN over its 3G, complete with a mini DVR-like system that you can watch shows anytime. It’s Moto’s multimedia-centric phone, which changes its form depending on what function is in use. Better yet, there’s YouTube, MySpace and Flickr uploading.
It does more than that.
