Wi-Fi internet radios are usually more function than form oriented, their plastic and metal bodies lacking the elegance or charm of a vintage radio. Solution: Reanimate a classy vintage corpse with a modern soul.
When I die, I want my remains buried in this pyramid PC mod.
I know that no matter what controller I use, I’m awful at video games not involving Mario or Karts, but XIM’s new mod’ll surely be of interest to hardcore Xbox 360 gamers.
As if the PS3/360 hybrid controller weren’t enough, one modder has stuck an entire Xbox 360 inside a PS3 shell.
Modder extraordinaire Ben Heck is growing disciples like Chia Pets, and his forum poster SifuF’s new Nintendo Sixtyfree Lite-R is an incredible little portable N64. We’re sure he’s made the Heckster proud.
Saying that steampunk is played out is almost getting played out itself, but they just keep making things. This week we have a another winner: a computer! Covered in brass! With horns! Die.
Daniel Pon needed to make a steampunk mouse to accompany his tricked-out keyboard and monitor, so he got to work, and perhaps a little carried away. The end result is impressive. And kind of nauseating.
An awkward cross-breed time-travelling mongrel is a fairly fitting description for this mod that’s jammed an Atari 2600 emulator into the shell of a Sega Game Gear. Sure, it’s not the prettiest of mods, but taking the ’80s-era Atari and squishing it into the ’90s-era Sega took some tricky work: it has a built-in 40-game Atari chip, and can actually take 2600 carts into a slot on the back. The resulting “Atari Game 2600″ has a 2.5-inch screen and can go for 7-8 hours on AA batteries, which seems pretty impressive. [Ben Heck via Technabob]
Sometimes the simplest hacks are the most useful: If you’ve got a laptop with limited USB ports and you’re in the market for something small and handy to let you charge a device over USB, then this is for you. All it takes is a male-male VGA adaptor, a spare USB socket and some accurate soldering: it’s all in the Instructable. Neat. [Instructables]
It’s a matter of taste, but seeing the technological phenomenon in motion, this slot loading Xbox 360 is fairly enviable. Modded with a Frankensteinian hybrid drive combining half the Xbox’s stock Hitachi (DVD) drive with half of an iMac’s stock (CD-ROM) drive, the job looks like it must have been a complete pain. But luckily, we have the power of internet video to get our vicarious optical media insertion kicks. [Xbox-Scene via Hardocp]
