HP is like a netbook gatling gun at the moment: weeks after the Linux based Mini 101, they’ve fired off the next round in the shape of the Mini 5101.
This Apple Mini Keyboard by philipskillern isn’t just a logical progression of the hardware line, it’s fancy looking too. Download the wallpaper yourself in various sizes. [Deviantart]
It’s safe to say we’ve hit the third generation of netbooks. They’re nice now. The HP Mini 5105 strikes at Asus Eee Seashell‘s fancily contoured plastic with aluminium and magnesium. Oh yeah, and 95-percent chiclet keyboard that feels fantastic.
Remember those distortion issues people (like me) were having with the unibody MacBook Pros while using the Mini DisplayPort Dual-Link DVI adapter? We can confirm that they’re still there in the new machines.
Dell just told us the Mini 10 is finally getting that built-in TV tuner option promised at CES as a $US50 add-on. It tunes in to over-the-air digital ATSC TV. AU: I imagine this is US only for the time being.

10 Inches, it seems, is a bit of a sweet spot for netbooks, and the HP Mini 2140 has a 10-inch screen. But sadly, that line that drivers of expensive sports cars tell themselves all the time: “It’s not how big it is, it’s how you use it that counts” is ultimately true, at least with this particular device.
I can’t think of another product category less served by the ol’ “world’s smallest” tag that gadget-makers continuously foam over than network storage drives. But, of course, here we have the “world’s smallest” NAS.
The Dell Mini 10, the Mini 9′s successor, which is due to start shipping early March will come with a “fixed” 1GB of RAM, meaning, it won’t be upgradable according to Dell. Does this mean that the RAM is soldered in, or fixed on the motherboard? Anyways, it’s probably a result of the netbook licensing limitations they have with Microsoft. [Dell via Boing Boing]
Judging by the sudden influx of local product launches of products we saw at CES, it looks like the current Aussie release delay is about 6 weeks. The latest CES gadget to hit Aussie shelves is the HP Mini 2140 (don’t call it a) netbook.
