Chair Made from Torpedo-Lifting Jaws from a Nuclear Sub Will Cradle Your Explosive Parts

Posted by Adam Frucci at 2:45 AM on August 6, 2008

I can't say that the Matrix Unplugged Chair looks very comfortable, but it certainly does look badass. That's because it's made from the torpedo-lifting jaws of a nuclear submarine. That's right: the parts that used to handle delicate explosive torpedoes will now be handling your delicate ass.

Ultimate Matrix Collection On Blu-ray October 14

Posted by Jason Chen at 6:39 AM on July 30, 2008

The previously DVD and HD DVD-only Ultimate Matrix Collection is headed to Blu-ray October 14, which will be pretty much the same as the HD DVD version. It'll have 35 hours of extras, picture-in-picture commentary and a price tag of US$130. If you were that big a Matrix fan to spend US$130 on this, you probably already own it on HD DVD. 65-foot-high Lego Cathedrals Store 19 Billion Pieces a Year

Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 2:15 PM on June 27, 2008

Without a doubt, the Lego brick storage buildings were the most impressive part of my visit to Lego. When I first saw their 20 metre high ceilings, with multiple giant robots going up and down retrieving boxes full of bricks, I felt like I entered the Matrix. Below the thunderous noise of the flying machines, I heard myself shouting: "It's a cathedral." And as you will see in the video, with a total 65.6 square-miles storage area--900 million pieces at any given time--they are indeed The Lego Cathedrals. I was in total awe, and the amazement didn't stop there.

Mac With 150 Apps Running Shows Teeny-Weeny Dock, Exposé Windows

Posted by Haroon Malik at 1:59 PM on April 6, 2008

Ever wondered what Mac Dock and Exposé look like with 150 apps running? Well, wonder no more, friend. Wonder no more. Rest assured, however, everything gets ludicrously tiny. Now, we're not too sure who'd be using 150 apps simultaneously, except for maybe that dude at the end of The Matrix who manages to confuse the crap out of everyone. Damn, he sure was crazy. Anyway, the sight is quite impressive nonetheless, so jump in for a screen shot.

ABB FlexPicker Robot's Legs Move So Fast it's Scary

Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 5:30 AM on March 26, 2008

The ABB IRB 340 FlexPicker's legs instantly put me in mind of a kind of merciless Matrixesque robot, snatching up human bodies and doing terrible things to them. But apparently, it's the world's fastest industrial robot, and is used to pick and sort items on a production line— innocent things like sausages and croissants. By fastest, it means 10g of acceleration: that's zero to 280mph in a single second. Which makes for one heck of a rapid sausage, as the fascinating (and eerily Matrix-like) video reveals.

Best Hotels Around the World for Geeks, Neo Wannabes

Posted by Jesus Diaz at 3:40 AM on March 5, 2008

If you are the kind who follows white rabbits, has weird deja vus, pops red pills, and you are planning to go to Sydney, Australia, anytime soon (not necessarily in that order,) the 31-story, 416-room Westin is the best hotel for you. After all, it was the place where the Deja Vu scene from The Matrix was filmed and number 3 of the list of "best geek hotels in the world 2.0," whatever that means:

Super Soaker Inventor Working on Way To Harvest Heat From Humans Matrix-Style

Posted by Jason Chen at 7:30 AM on February 9, 2008

Who didn't like Super Soakers as a kid? You pump it a lot, it builds pressure, then it shoots liquid. In many ways, they were very similar to humans, which is why Lonnie Johnson, its inventor, is looking for ways to use harvest waste heat from humans to power a tiny Johnson system. The full name is the Johnson Thermoelectric Energy System, and it could be up to 60% efficient (standard car engines are only about 30% efficient) at the right temperature.

'Matrix Goggles' Probably Sounded Like a Good Idea at the Time

Posted by Adam Frucci at 10:09 AM on September 6, 2007

A bunch of Russian artists have created these "Matrix Goggles," which allow you to stagger around with everything looking like you're trapped in a mediocre sci-fi movie. It's the most useful invention to come out of Mother Russia since Vodka. Insert your own tired "In Soviet Russia _____ ______s you!" joke here. [English Russia]
