Minnesota, apparently the most mall-centric state in the country, is also the site of the earliest modern mall, Southdale Center in Edina. This is the grandaddy of our distinctly American enclosed retail spaces. USA! USA!
This cruise ship is called the Whampoa and it is stranded in a gigantic pool in the middle of Hong Kong’s largest private housing state: Whampoa Garden. However, this Love Boat is sailing to nowhere: it’s just a huge shopping mall full of restaurants, shops, and a hotel, built to look like a cruise ship. Looking at it up close, it really looks like one, down to the metal finish. In Google Maps, you realise how huge this thing is:
Those friendly Dell kiosks you’ve been seeing in the mall are all going away as Dell shutters all 140 stores in favour of going back to their online sales and bigger name retail outlets (like Best Buy). All their inventory-less stores will be closed, meaning that you will have to order online from the comfort of your own home instead of trekking down to the mall and doing it. AU: Not sure if this is the same for Australia – I’ll ask and let you know…
