An expensive mouse, fine. A premium keyboard, alright. Tools of the trade. But when it comes to gaming peripherals that seem as much decorative as they are functional, it may be time to draw the line. More »

Mad Catz has somehow snagged one of those mythical deals with Microsoft that allow it to make “specialty” wireless controllers for the Xbox 360 (think FightPad and FightStick). No small feat, so god knows how many babies they signed over for Ballmer to eat. [MTV]
Traditionally, the name “Madcatz” implies generic, a peripheral that’s cheaper than those manufactured by Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. But the Madcatz Street Fighter IV FightStick Tournament Edition is an ultrapremium controller that will go for an ultrapremium price when it’s released on February 20th. $US150. But it might be worth every penny.
Mad Catz has an entire set of Rock Band instruments coming next week, all with some weird features that aren’t on the official Harmonix ones. Rock Band Mods found that there’s the wired bass guitar, a wired regular guitar, wired microphone, portable drum kit and premium wired drums. Hit the jump to see details on these, which looks like they solve some of the small issues we’ve been having with our own set.
The last time we saw HDMI cables for the Xbox 360 it was from the now out-of-business Lik-Sang. This HDMI Conversion Kit however, is from MadCatz, who have brought interesting and innovative products to market without going arse up.
As a member of the iPod generation, you’re probably used to the feeling of tiny plastic speakers being jammed into your ear canals. MadCatz decided that some consumers might be tired of that vaguely invasive practice and, after acquiring In Air Technology, went on to develop the AirDrives, a new hybrid style earphone that fits gently over the ear and places the earbud just outside the entrance of the ear.
Designed with both safety and comfort in mind, the AirDrives meet OSHA standards for all-day listening because of the distance they put between the ear drum and the audio source. MadCatz also claims this unique design drowns out less ambient noise than traditional earbuds or over-the-ear headphones, making them realistic for office workers, joggers or other users who don’t want to zone out entirely while enjoying their music. Available in September, a kid-sized set will cost $70 while the one-size-fits-all adult version will be $100. [MadCatz AirDrives via Electronista] More »
