Back when the fashionista PC launched in March, it had a starting pricetag of $3,699. Checking out the page today, you can grab the entry level model for just $2,199, a $1,500 price drop. Even the premium “Desire” version only clocks in at $2,799. Considering it comes with a 128GB SSD, the Adamo has pretty much gone from “luxury” status to “bargain” status overnight.

When Bang and Olufsen tackles a new type of device, they do it in a very specific way: oddly, stylishly, and with reckless disregard for cost. Exhibit F: The $US375 BeoTime, a flute-like, accelerometer-equipped wireless alarm clock.

Tied to the broader range of Beo home theatre product, the BeoTime is a bit minimalist, even by B&O’s standards—it’s basically a stylised aluminium stick. But, as I’m sure the salesmen will be eager to tell you, it does so much more than an aluminium stick! On top of telling time, it can wireless switch B&O audio and video products on and off with alarms or sleep timers. Menus are navigated with the large centre button, the snooze switch is the device’s accelerometer, which triggers when the device is moved, and the alarm can be totally disabled by depressing the metal plunger protruding from the device’s end. Time, alarm time and alarm source info are displayed on a set of low-res panels. It’s a bit disappointing to find out that a $US375 single-function device is powered by AA batteries (included!), but Bang and Olufsen says each set will last a year. Besides, if you’re wealthy enough to own the full battery of B&O equipment necessary to fully take advantage of the BeoTime, you’ve probably got some manner of battery-changing servant. Available in August. [Bang and Olufsen]

“Mnemosyne,” in Greek mythology, is the personification of memory, which you of course did not know, and that’s why you’ll never be able to afford this USB drive. We sort of understand the impulse to create a physical barrier to accessing data, but one of the many things about this product that’s puzzling is that reassembling the puzzle is just as difficult as unravelling it in the first place.

Mnemosyne wants to emphasise the “value of memory,” so maybe the value of money doesn’t really show up on their radar.

Apparently, it may be Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud’s new specially retro-fitted A380. As you may remember, the arabian Prince shone his genie lamp and bought an Airbus A380—the biggest passenger plane in the world—for his personal use.

British company Design Q is now making the plans for its interior, three floors with every luxurious detail you can imagine, including a lift that goes all the way down to the runway’s tarmac and extends a red carpet so guests can get into the flying palace. I can already imagine a stunning hostess saying “Welcome, Mr Bond.”

In addition to all of the above, the full marble Turkish bath in the spa, and twenty first class seats/beds for the extra guests, the plane will be full of high tech gadgets. The boardroom, for example, will have a hologram projector and a giant touchscreen perspex table, while each suite will include a virtual prayer mat proyector, always pointing in Mecca’s direction.

Whoever bought it, I hope he invites us for a trip. And with “us” I mean “me.” I can sleep on the couch, Mr Prince Sir you.
The iPod touch is only a 16GB model, presumably because the convertible’s name is the 16M and not because a bump to the 32GB would have broken the bank. But if you want to listen to a digital Ferrari engine in your real Ferrari on a Ferrari-branded iPod, you better jump on it quick: Only 499 are being made, and each is likely to cost $US325,000. That way you can have a GPS actually in your dash. They also claim that the price is $US325k, not $US225k.

This one-off was commissioned by some Chinese guy to Louis Vuitton, and is coated with Taiga leather and LV’s standard brass fittings and red interior finish. Absurd, yes—but if we ever become a millionaire and go on vacation, we’d want one of these too. If some Chinese guy can make them build this, why not me? I’m some Chinese guy!
In addition to the fish tank base, Hydroco’s Hydroglass unit can feature a 7-head rainbar, heated aquabed, warm water mattress and other accessories when fully decked out. It’s going to start a revolution of laziness in the bathroom. That’s right—sooner or later we will be able to poop lying down. What a day that will be.
