Wilson caught this limited edition Red OLPC at the company’s headquarters near MIT’s campus in Cambridge today. The limited edition run of 100 is made for developers working on the dual boot Sugar Linux and Windows XP system, and has specs identical to the regular OLPC, except <s>2GB of RAM</s> 2GB flash memory—the minimum required for Windows. As you can see, the colour scheme is the inverse of the all-red prototype you may have seen before. There are no plans for a public release, so the closest you’ll get to seeing this may be in the gallery below.

Each individual app will have a hard limit of 2GB, as well as a ceiling of $999 for each app. These two look like pretty reasonable limits for all but the most extreme of cases. If someone wants to charge more than US$0, the lowest possible price is US$0.99. There are other details, such as how an App looks, how they’re rated inside the store, and region control, but Apple’s legal team had AppleInsider take those images down–always a sign that there was some good stuff there.

Microsoft will release a limited-edition Joy Division Zune sometime around June 5, coordinated with the launch of a DVD about the band. It is thought that the Joy Division Zune will be designed by Peter Saville, the graphic designer behind both Joy Division album covers, and a big player in the Manchester music scene of the ’80s. While there are not yet any pictures of the artwork available, there is every indication that the design will be something along the lines of that which is on the band’s Unknown Pleasures album. While the DG used mechanical tubes to display the time, the Opus 8 works using a complicated system of mechanical pixels that rise up from the display when the user activates a mechanism on the side of the case. But that’s not all.

From the press release:

An exceptional and advanced timepiece, Opus 8 utilises hand-wound mechanical movements to create a modern, digital time display. Inspired by pin art games, which create 3D impressions of objects pressed against them, the numbers in the display will only appear “upon request,” activated by a bolt on the right hand side of the case. Nothing appears until the mechanism is wound.

A plate joins together small segments, both mobile and fixed. Just underneath is a disc driven by the movement, which turns independently in real time. When the mechanism is wound, the pieces adjust to display the time. As the plate descends, the small segments remain visible, “blocked” by the crystal, allowing the hour to be read for 5 seconds. Technically, all functions are related, enabling everything to be displayed on demand – the minute hand turns the hour that then turns the AM/PM function.

In addition, the back of the watch features a design resembling a printed circuit that functions as a second time display. AM and PM status are featured on the left, hours an minutes in the centre, and a power reserve indicator is located on the right. Throw all of that fancy technology in a case with a cool looking retro vibe and you have yourself one hell of a timepiece. Just don’t get your hopes up about owning one yourself. The series is limited to 50 watches and the rumour is that they were sold out before the unveiling.
In fact, the only difference is the colour theme (ruddy scarlett) and the etching in the back of a flying skull in a top hat. And guess how much you get to pay to get Mr. I-used-to-be-the-mad-hatter-and-then-I-died-but-it’s -cool-because-I-grew-some-pretty-awesome-wings drawn on the back of your phone?

ONLY 549 EUROS (A$946)! That’s right, in the line of all high-fashion (or mid-range fashion, since this is Levi’s after all) mobiles, you pay through the nose for wonderfully mediocre features and in exchange you get… art?
