Elly was remarkably keen on the HTC Sensation, and if you are too, it’s worth noting that JB Hi-Fi’s currently running a deal where if you sign up to the Telstra $79 plan, you get a $100 JB Hi-Fi gift card. It’s even better if you’re switching from another telco; they’ll give you $200 in that case.[JB Hi-Fi]
Over at Lifehacker, Gus has spotted that JB Hi-Fi is offering a pretty sweet deal for Canon DSLR buyers; $100 off trade-in for your old camera when buying selected Canon DSLRs. I was initially a little concerned by the “if it has a lens” tagline; most DSLR lenses, even second-hand should be worth more than $100. Reading the T&Cs, though, it says “any old camera”. Now, where did I put that box brownie? [JB HiFi via Lifehacker]
JB Hi-Fi says it will have between 6 and 8 million tracks from 100,000 artists when JB Hi-Fi NOW launches by the end of this year. The service will directly challenge Sony’s Qriocity Music Unlimited service, despite the fact that Sony is one of JB Hi-Fi’s biggest brands.
JB has another one of its crazy one night sales tonight — between 6pm and 9pm. Deals will include 20% off portable GPS units, receivers, speakers, DVDs and Apple computers (except the iPad). Computers will be reduced 15% except Sony Vaios, and again, any tablets. [JB Hi-Fi]
We all know what a JB Hi-Fi store looks like: lots of product, lots of yellow, lots of discount price tags everywhere you go, and a fair chance you’ll get a couple of free DVDs thrown in when you buy a television. But a new concept store opening in Sydney later this month will turn that whole approach on its head.
Looking to grab a rare pokémon and Chreish Ball for that ever expanding Pokédex of yours? As part of promos for the new Pokémon movie (oh, lord, another one befouls our cinemas) which stars the “mysterious” Manaphy, from 7-13 November you can take your DS into any JB Hi-Fi to grab the download for nix. All you need is a DS, a copy of Diamond or Pearl, and a Pokédex. If you’re having problems, we’ve been told staff will be able to assist. Or you can make absolutely sure of what you’re meant to do by checking this page at Nintendo’s site.
For the details freaks, Manaphy has an ‘exclusive’ move called Heart Swap, which switches healing effects with other Pokémon. What this means in practice beats me — maybe an ‘in the know’ reader will share some thoughts. I figure most people who play Pokémon get seriously hooked, so if that means you, make sure you use this one week window to catch another for your collection. You don’t want this gap in your Pokédex, do you? DO YOU? [The official Manaphy website]
Straight from the pages of teen dream magazine. Earlier in the year JB Hi-Fi took to the stage with Blu-ray to announce they were going steady. This was exclusive dating. There would be no two timing. They even wore Blu-ray’s swim team jacket.
About eight months later, it now seems JB Hi-Fi has told Blu-ray “it’s not you, it’s me” and “maybe we should be open to new experiences for a while”. Sure, they’ll still be friends, but they’ll just also be spending a little time with the guys from the track team. Of course, the captain of the track team? HD DVD! Oh man!
No doubt Blu-ray will be putting on the “that’s fine” and “we understand”, but I know I just heard a heartstring breaking. -Seamus Byrne [The press release]
