Iron Man Children's Costume Modded to Be Deadly-Cute

Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:15 AM on November 25, 2008

One very loving father spent two months tricking out a standard child's Iron Man costume with real tech for his 5-year-old son—not just a CO2 air compressor to fire missiles or repulsor waves, but a complete BeagleBoard computer running a makeshift JARVUS along with an Arduino board to handle all of the advanced suit functions. Sure, it's just a toy now, but give the father/son team a few years to see what the suit can really do. Here's a full rundown on the tech inside:

The Real Stars Of Our Favourite Movies: Gadgets and Cheeseburgers

Posted by Mark Wilson at 1:00 AM on October 23, 2008

We love high budget sci fi and action as much as anyone, but who really starred in Iron Man? Robert Downey Jr? Sure, he made an appearance. But so did his co-stars Apple, Dell and Burger King. The Dark Knight? Christian Bale peeked his head in, but so did Canon, Nokia and Bang & Olufsen. Antrepo Design Industry has gone through some of our favourite films and remade the movie posters with a bit more honesty and brand awareness. The ads are a tad light on explosions, but they pack a mighty punch of truth and justice:

Mitsubishi LaserVue vs. Pioneer Kuro Plasma: The High-End Throwdown

Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 3:45 AM on October 19, 2008

The dudes over at The Tech Lounge sat down for a real-world—not canned—comparison of Mitsubishi's cutting-edge, 65-inch LaserVue HDTV with the current reigning champ, Pioneer's 60-inch Kuro plasma set. Does Mitsubishi's fancy new tech really make for a better high-def experience? The tests show, at the very least, that the LaserVue can certainly hold its own against maybe the best HDTV in the world: "You're not going to find a set that is capable of displaying colours quite like this one."

Tony Stark's Boozing Ways, BD-Live Snafu Bring Down Paramount Servers

Posted by Jack Loftus at 12:00 AM on October 6, 2008

I would love to tell you this morning that the record breaking Iron Man Blu-ray release on October 1 was all puppies and rainbows, but that just isn't the case. And I can't lie to you, dear readers, at least not about Iron Man. The truth is, while the release made director John Favreau a happy man, it's done nothing but piss off consumers, thanks to huge BD-Live-related traffic jams the popular release created on Paramount's servers. Tony Stark, thy newest enemy and threat to the free world is BD-Live!

Iron Man Outsells Every Blu-ray in Existence in Just Two Days

Posted by Mark Wilson at 2:45 AM on October 4, 2008

According to a casual announcement by John Favreau on the Howard Stern show, as of Thursday, Iron Man Blu-ray has outsold every other Blu-ray release to date. Without firm sales numbers, the accomplishment might not be saying much. Yet it's still a testament to how a major new release (which is verified awesome on 150 inches) can reinvigorate the Blu-ray platform. But Iron Man camp, you'd better watch your back. Because The Dark Knight is coming to whoop you up December 9th, bitches*!

Which of the EIGHT Versions of the Iron Man DVD Should You Buy?

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 11:00 AM on October 1, 2008

Okay, so you don't have a Blu-ray player and you're not getting a new Dell. That still leaves you with eight—EIGHT—different versions of Iron Man to choose from, with everyone from Walmart to Borders hawking their own exclusive kit. Best Buy's might the most exquisitely fanboy fapworthy, encasing the flick and a custom lithograth in a Mark II mini-bust made by Sideshow Collectibles. Here's a guide to the rest, which we've placed in order of awesomeness, if you need some help deciding.

AU: Don't expect 8 different versions down here. And seriously - if you don't already own a Blu-ray player, this is the movie you want to buy one for.

Dell Preloading Select Computers with Iron Man

Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:31 AM on October 1, 2008

We love Iron Man and really have nothing bad to say about the guy. But we were surprised to hear that customers who are personalising their Dell's Inspiron, Studio or XPS will have the options to bump up the RAM, upgrade the video card and then preload Iron Man (in standard definition) with some extras for $US20.

Japanese Iron Man Toy Has a Ridiculous Level of Detail

Posted by Sean Fallon at 9:01 AM on September 25, 2008

Some very talented individuals at the Japanese company Hot Toys have developed 1:6 scale Iron Man Mark I, II and III figures that feature an absolutely extraordinary level of detail. Seriously though—just look at Stark's face. Sure he looks kind of Japanese but I'll be damned if that is not the best Robert Downey Jr. has ever looked in tiny plastic form. Details are scarce, but more info is expected to be released sometime "soon." I can't wait to find out how much I can't afford to buy this!

Ghostface Killah's Iron Man Cameo Finally Sees the Light Of Day

Posted by John Mahoney at 12:00 AM on August 17, 2008

When Ghostface Killah aka Pretty Toney aka Tony Starks popped up on IMDB with a cameo in Iron Man as an arms dealer in Dubai, we rejoiced. When we saw the movie and realised there was no Ghost, we were saddened. But now here he is, all 10 seconds of him (skip to the halfway point). He's around just long enough to maybe fake some kind of accent and hand off some flygirls, but now we can finally rest having seen Ghost in Iron Man. Stick around til the end for, well, just stick around for the end. [Access Hollywood via NYMag]
