Having launched in Europe in late July, Australia has today become the second region in the world to get access to the official BBC iPlayer iPad app. The app itself is free, and includes access to ten hours or so of sample content: for ongoing access to the full range of iPlayer content, you need to pay either $9.49 a month or $89.99 a year. We’re all about the iView love here at Giz, but sometimes you just want something more than ABC programming on demand. Something like Hulu. But if you’ve ever tried to access the video on demand service, you’ve probably gotten a big fat rejection notice on your screen based on where you live. Gus over at Lifehacker’s put together a really good piece on why you can’t access all that free US TV programming, as well as ways that you can’t work around it. Definitely worth a read.
The British Broadcasting Corporation, television purveyor of such fine programs as Top Gear and Planet Earth, is said to be in talks with Google to bring their excellent VOD service to America.
