You can tell when it’s an Olympic year, even if you’re not that interested in sports. That’s because the Olympic rings logo starts appearing on all sorts of seemingly unrelated products. Acer’s the latest to jump between the rings, offering “Olympic” Iconia 510 and 700 tablets.
Acer’s new quad-core, mega-resolution tablet is packing 1080p and some serious guts. It might be the turning point for when the average Android tablet is actually worth a damn.
Rumours of a slimmer, more capable sibling to Acer’s A200 tablet have been floating around for a while. But all Acer had to reveal at their press conference today was that the still unnamed tablet would have a full 1080p display and will be powered by a quad-core processor.
The Good Guys are having a sale on the Iconia A500 Tab; $249 will buy you the 16GB version, $299 the 32GB version of the A500, whereas if you fancy the 3G-enabled A501, that’ll cost you $339 for 16GB or $399 for 32GB. [The Good Guys via OzBargain]

Shipping next month for the same price as the top-spec 11-inch MacBook Air, Acer’s Iconia runs Windows 7 on a Core i5 chip. The main appeal here is those two 14-inch multitouch screens (made with Gorilla Glass), that are for typing and gesturing on. [Acer via CrunchGear]
