I’m here at Walsh Bay for the Aussie launch of the HTC Magic. Stay tuned for more as things get interesting…
UPDATE: The event’s all done, but it was all about the phone, not the carriers. There were, however some interesting elements discussed…
Following on from our HTC invite for an event next week, Vodafone have just sent out a press release stating that they are now offering Pre-registration for the HTC Magic phone.
Back when the HTC Magic was officially announced back at Mobile World Congress, we didn’t know whether Vodafone’s exclusive deal would carry on down to Australia, and when (or if) we’d see the handset this year. Someone more adept at navigating the T-Mobile inventory screens than I am has discovered that the carrier’s version of the Android-packing HTC Magic might have a more official U.S. name in “MyTouch.” Hrmm.
In a rather excited post on Vodafone Spain’s blog, the company has announced that the HTC Magic, set for a May 5th release across Europe, will be “available” today. ¿Por qué? No sé.
HTC’s second Android handset looks as though it’s been subjected to its last delay, with a listing for a May 5th release on Vodafone UK’s website.
T-Mobile just sent out invitations for a big launch event happening in NYC on April 21. What might they be up to?
HTC and Vodafone sales representatives have revealed that the G2—Android-powered phone—HTC Magic’s launch date has been pushed back from April to May 1st because of “last minute hardware changes.”
This is the second such slip, though the “reveal” here isn’t that surprising: T-Mobile, current G1 carrier, will probably get the Magic. [Cellphone Signal]
