Two men were working on a waterborne excavator when it collapsed and pinned one underwater—just deep enough to make breathing mostly impossible. Jumping into action, witness David Thomson ripped off his clothes and dove into the chilling waters to rescue the dying man, known only as John.
I have to believe that some company, somewhere has developed a squirt gun that could be mounted on a garden hose—but I doubt it looked as cool as this concept version.

We’re not firefighters, so this idea may be completely crazy. But if we fought fires for a living, we’d feel a lot more comfortable doing battle with this mean-looking gas-propelled missile launcher concept.
Generally, I don’t consider radiators to be all that interesting (unless it is shaped like a Lego brick), but this coiled radiator design from Ciussai is definitely an exception. The metal wire tubing can be wound and stretched much like a garden hose, which gives it far more functionality than simply heating a room. For example: you can coil it around a bar to dry clothes or lay it on your bed to warm things up on a cold night. I don’t know how safe all of this is, but I love the idea. And the best part is that it can actually be purchased from Ad Hoc—although pricing details are unknown.
I imagine Dutch designer Sander Bokkinga stumbling around his garage when he had the artistic idea to make his Bok range of furniture. Everyone has strings of cable and old hosepipe lying around, but it takes some lateral thinking to stiffen it and tie it up to turn it into chairs, stools and lamps. They’re all waterproof too, so can be used inside and out. Neat— though we do wonder about their comfiness. The collection is on show at the upcoming Milan Design Week. [Designboom]
