George Takei's Heroes Power Tells Him to Buy Apple Stock

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 9:20 AM on August 12, 2008

Heroes Season 2 was mostly garbage. So I was kind of glad the writer's strike gave them the chance to reboot and blow past the rest of the season, thereby preserving my final, dangly shreds of interest (though I worry about this season's rumoured multi-verse). Anyways! One deleted scene reveals Hiro's dad's (George Takei) power:

Guest Review: Millennium Falcon Legacy Edition by Heroes Producer Jesse Alexander

Posted by Brian Lam at 4:24 AM on August 6, 2008

The only thing cooler than a review of the new Millennium Falcon toy? A review of the Millennium Falcon toy by geek storyteller Jesse Alexander, who has worked on Giz favourites like Heroes, Alias and Lost. P.S. I think that's an Emmy on his desk. More of Jesse's impressions, below:

OLPC Ad by Heroes' Masi Oka Has Us Convinced

Posted by Jason Chen at 4:00 AM on December 13, 2007

We might have been a bit harsh on Masi Oka and his OLPC ambassadorship when it was first announced, but this ad of his seems pretty solid. He's pimping the OLPC Give One Get One program, which lets you buy two laptops (one for yourself, one for some kid you don't know) for $US399. Seems like the OLPC team made a good pick in him—he's sincere and nerdy enough that you'd actually believe he cares about laptops for kids.

NBC Hooks Up With Netflix to Deliver More TV on Your PC

Posted by Matt Buchanan at 7:45 AM on November 30, 2007

tvguideheroes.jpgNBC has become quite the digital distribution whore, like they broke up with their longtime lover and are slutting it up to make them jealous or something. Their latest partner is Netflix.com, where subscribers can watch Heroes eps the day after they air—the release curiously avoids the word "stream"—as well as past eps of 30 Rock, The Office and others. Okay, this might've been cool last year, or even a couple months ago, but nothing so far indicates how the Netflix deal is at all different from what you get on Hulu or NBC.com or NBC Direct, though the guess is that Netflixsters might be spared annoying ads.

Heroes Star Hiro Nakamura Named OLPC Ambassador

Posted by Jason Chen at 2:45 AM on November 2, 2007

geek7ss.jpgHeroes star Masi Oka, also known as "hey, that's the guy from Scrubs", has just been "chosen" to be the OLPC Global Ambassador. His qualifications? Being a huge nerd kid (he was on a cover of Time for genius kids because his friend's dad was the photographer), working as a nerd at ILM (even while shooting Heroes), and looking like a nerd—three qualifications we meet as well.

He says:

"Being a part of a global effort that is enabling children to learn, grow and succeed in life is both tremendously gratifying and important to me," said Masi Oka. "I'm very excited about this opportunity to represent One Laptop per Child and bring my love of technology and education to the global community. I believe that it is incredibly important to enable access to learning for all children so that every child has the opportunity to create a better life for themselves, their family and their society."

Which has the subtext of

Leaders of Nations hear my cry. Please buy these $100 $200 laptops. Seriously. They're super bad arse and for kids and stuff. Now where's my check.

For this decision, we're sure one guy at OLPC camp just went "who's the most popular Asian nerd right now" and another went "that guy from Heroes!" To them, I present my head shot. I would post it here but most of you are working, and I don't want to melt any panties/boxers. [Businesswire]

Heroes Season 2 Teaser Shows Slight Spoilers

Posted by Jason Chen at 8:50 AM on September 21, 2007

We're not sure if NBC wanted to keep the Heroes season 2 teaser video spoiler free, but the fact that a few characters appear in this—the same characters whose fates were up in the air at the end of season 1—kind of smashes that idea somewhat. If you don't want to know whether Peter, Nathan, or Sylar survives, don't watch the video—but the mere fact that we just named the three may have been spoiler enough. Them's the nature of the internets, my friends. [Heroes]
