How Live HD TV Is Made: A Look Inside Sony's Outside Broadcast Vans Nuance, the amazing voice-recognition technology behind Siri and other voice-recognition software on phones, has announced that they’ll be bringing their voice tech to TVs now with Dragon TV. Basically, Nuance wants you to talk to your TVs. And since Apple is supposedly making an HDTV that let’s you talk to the TV, this is getting VERY interesting.
Samsung’s long made some of the best HDTVs — and now that they’re all decked out with 3D and apps, what’s left? Beautiful, slim TVs that’ll use your voice and face as controls. That rumoured Apple iTV just got jumped. Also new from Samsung…a separate 55-inch Super OLED TV. Damn!
3DTV has earned its bad rap, and for good reason. Fast-moving sequences get blurry, the contrast gets soggy depending on the room’s brightness, and good luck if you try to watch low-resolution videos. But Sony’s new Bravia HX 850 series aims to eliminate all these issues in one fell swoop.
Sure, you can spend $US6,000 (or more) for a top-of-the-line HDTV with more bells and whistles than you can shake a remote at. But if you’re on a budget, Panasonic’s newest line of plasma HDTV’s offer top-flight features for bargain-bin prices.
LED televisions until now have generally just used an LED power source to light the LCD display. This differs from the Jumbo-trons you see at sports arenas, where each pixel is an individual LED. Now, Sony’s bringing the big-screen technology to your living room with its Crystal LED Display.
Looks like 2012 will be the closest thing we’ve had to the year of the OLED — real products with serious screen size. Like Samsung’s “Super OLED”, offering 55 inches of mega-rich colour and brightness. Bonus: Kinect-esque body tracking, too.
LG has its own take on the future of HD beauty, and it certainly promises to be just that: 55 inches of 3D OLED glory slathered across a teensy-thin display.
At least one more company thinks you’re going to like Google TV: LG’s LMG860 and LMG620 not only pack the company’s own “smart TV” software, but the more polished Android-y dashboard as well. That’s two ways to channel surf smart.
There’s a raft of new 3D TVs out from LG, and they’ve all got one thing in common: the acknowledgement that the third dimension has been pretty lame so far. Not lame? Depth control, passive glasses and dual-view multiplayer gaming potential.
