When Sony showed off the early concept demo of an interchangeable camcorder – it looked like a basic plastic case with some lenses. The actual product – the NEX-VG10 – has just been announced, and it actually looks like a huge leap forward for the entire camcorder market.
Today Sony officially announced its NEX-3 and NEX-5 interchangeable lens compacts (which is exciting enough), but at the launch in Sydney they also mentioned that engineers in Japan are currently working on an interchangeable lens Handycam. They even had a concept model on display.
We may not have seen an Aussie release of Sonys Webbie camcorder, but Sony are actually bringing the new Bloggie camera down under next month.
Save for slight variations in storage mediums and capacities, resolution and lenses, Sony’s 13 new Handycam Camcorders aren’t radically different from each other.
Sony introduced a whopping 17 new cameras and camcorders today, in the Handycam and Cyber-shot lines, and as was hinted, they support SD and microSD cards. Even better, the new TransferJet lets you share photos between cameras, wirelessly.
It’s funny – when Sony showed off their new Optical SteadyShot Active feature on their new Handycam lineup to journalists using their own wobble board, it was like the camera wasn’t moving at all. That’s why Peter Tong’s clip using his own homemade wobble board is probably a much better indicator of the feature’s true ability. UPDATED!
Back at CES, Sony launched roughly 7.2 million new products. And while we’re not all that fazed that a good chunk of Sony badged gadgetry won’t be making it across the Pacific to entertain us Aussies, I was devastated to learn at this morning’s Sony Sessions that the Webbie camcorder will be part of the gadgets that are left behind. In fact, apparently nobody outside of the US will be able to get their hands on the cheap 1080 camcorder.
