Initially called a “Facebook killer”, Google Me is now said to be a social toolbar/Chrome extension – but don’t get too disappointed. Rumourmongers are saying the project’s so big Sergey Brin is playing an active part in the development.
At yesterday’s Google Zeitgeist conference in Arizona, CEO Eric Schmidt confirmed that the company will roll out a new social service, internally dubbed Google Me, sometime later this year. They basically want to give your web a social booster shot.
Codenamed “Google Me”, Google’s rumoured Facebook-like site wasn’t exactly confirmed by their CEO Eric Schmidt, when talking to the WSJ, but he did have something to say about cloned sites and how no one needs ‘em.
When Digg founder Kevin Rose tweeted about the existence of “Google Me”, Google’s supposed “Facebook killer” social-networking site, I’d love to know whether he expected Facebook’s former-CTO to jump into the fray and confirm it, saying it’s a “real project”.
