The extremely-neat-but-probably-not-terribly-useful Google Voice Search app, of iPhone and Android fame, has been released for BlackBerrys, whose owners were judged 3rd most eager to talk to their handsets rather than through them. [Crave]
That Google Mobile for iPhone with talky talky search action is now up. Our own impressions of it are good. When you’re not in a noisy place (or another phone is ringing in the background) it can pretty much translate anything you say into a meaningful phrase. “Gizmodo” was understood, surprisingly, as was “bear market” and “bare ass”. That’s right, it was smart enough to tell the difference between the words bear and bare, depending on the context. Also super cool? The jibberish noise it makes when it’s searching for something. If you’re an iPhone user, you should go get it now right here.
Google has just released a new version of their maps application that supports voice recognition search on the BlackBerry Pearl. That means Pearl users can load Google Maps, hold a side button, say “pizza, i said PIZZA…PEE ZZ UH” and have the application magically find tacos in your immediate vicinity. This upgrade doesn’t look to be automatic, so hit the link to have Google text message your phone for the “experimental” update. [Google Maps via Gear Diary]
