Today’s crushing blow to our self confidence comes to us from India, where a 9 year old girl has become the youngest person to ever pass a Microsoft Certified Professional examination.
So why is it that the stereotype for gamers is a lonely nerd? Apparently over a third of Australian gamers are members of the fairer sex, at least according to a study by Roy Morgan commissioned by Microsoft.
Unfortunately, the study didn’t go into detail on where the best games to meet women were, but it did say that 44 percent of respondents were aged between 14 and 24. It also said that the majority of these female gamers play less than once a month, so don’t expect to form an ongoing, meaningful relationship too easily.
The other important thing to note is that the average income for women gamers is $76,300. Which means, should you be lucky enough to find and woo one of these wonderful creatures, you’ll be set for life.
Just so we’re all clear on this, there is no way that purchasing a computer or gadget of any kind, regardless of price, brand or size, will get girls like this to talk to you. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth. Spend that money on some new clothes, a haircut and a gym membership. You are too smart to be taken by these base tactics, my friends. [CNET Taiwan via The Raw Feed]
A new show on Playboy TV asks the question that is on all our minds day in and day out: what would you choose, a girl or a gadget? Their Gadget or the Girl reality “program” will force contestants to choose between a weekend vacation with a girl of their choice–as in one of the contestant’s providing, we assume, and not just them naming Evangeline Lilly and doing the biggest fist pump in the history of man–or a random high gadget. What kind of gadget? Crave says it’s going to vary between things like a 60-inch HDTV to an upright arcade box, but they won’t know what it is until they made their decision. So tough! If only I could have Evangeline Lilly as a sounding board for this decision. [CNET]
What a brilliant idea by someone at LG to name their KF600–a phone we’ve covered before–the Bikini. What better way can you think of, besides more money, to convince your models to pose in Bikinis? None. None better. Just when we thought Samsung had the upper hand on shoehorning Korean ladies into product photos, LG goes and takes it to another level. Will we see a subsequent “Samsung Topless” retaliation? Can we, please?
Thankfully just a concept for now, the Goodie 2 Shoe is an idea in function, and definitely not in form. They’re ugly, sure, but they have a neat trick: the heel is adjustable with magnets and hidden hinges, so a 1.5-inch heel suitable for work gets extended to a come-hither 3.5-inch for going out. Other parts can be customised, much like the latest Sidekick. Personally, we’d be confused if we saw an attractive lady in these shoes. It shows she’s got a geek’s mind, but also a geek’s taste, which is not always what we’re looking for. Still, we hope these appear on Lady Robocop in the 2010 remake. [Crave]
Newsweek’s latest issue, due out tomorrow, profiles a subject near and dear to many a geek guy’s heart and loins: hot women. But there’s a twist! These are women with brains to match their good looks, and that’s exactly the point. Called the Nerd Girls, this team of twentysomething Tufts University coeds was created by founder Karen Panetta to dismantle two common “myths.” First, that boys are better at math and science than girls; and second, that a female engineer is a socially inept girl with no sense of style. Do the Nerd Girls succeed at demolishing stereotypes?
