Gears of War 2 Zune Coming on Nov 7, Preorders Start Tonight

Killing two marketing birds with one stone, Microsoft’s bundling some of its Zunes with various Gears of War 2 (launching soon!) paraphernalia. Each 120GB Zune will sport a laser-etched “Crimson Omen” and come pre-loaded with 244 pieces of media, including the soundtrack, behind-the-scene videos and concept art. The entire package will cost you $US280 and will start shipping on November 7th. Pre-orders on Amazon.com and Walmart.com will begin at 3am EST tonight. Looks like M’soft’s stopped going after babies and chosen to focus on teenage boys instead. [Engadget]

Gears of War 2 Bundled with R/C Tank at Best Buy

Good news! Those who pre-order Gears of War 2 Limited Edition at Best Buy will score an R/C Centaur tank free. Bad news! We don’t know if the tank is a real, living R/C tank or just some sort of downloadable, in-game content. And this spy shot from a recent Best Buy pre-holiday meeting in Dallas really doesn’t confirm things either way. Still, free R/C tank! Never look a free R/C tank in the mouth, etc. [Kotaku]

Someone’s Dragon Collection Melted on this Gears of War Xbox 360

Sure we like the design, but we love that despite the muddy, spontaneous pewter finish of this homemade Gears of War Xbox 360, the creator very carefully negotiated all of the Xbox’s machined ventilation holes. All-in-all, it’s a pretty decent-looking mod, and those red lights are actually pretty quite when they’re not signaling a melted 360. galleryPost("gowxbox360", 3, ""); [Llama's]

How to do a Nerf Gears of War Lancer

These guys got an assault rifle, a mechanic chainsaw and a bunch of LEDs to create a Gears of War Lancer gun. Fortunately for everyone, or maybe just Jack Thompson, only the LEDs are real. But even while they used a toy chainsaw and a Nerf N-Strike Longshot CS-6, the final result looks great in motion.

Exclusive: Gears Of War Script Eyes On

I was talking to the Midway folks about Unreal Tournament III earlier today and the way the game will allow PS3 users to upload original content to the console when Mark Rein, veep of Epic Games, walked up.

It was a bit hot and he was fanning himself with what looked to be a sizeable pad of paper with a Gears of War cover. Turns out it was the movie script, well a form of the script for the movie. Rein said in a recent meeting with the script writer he apologized that he had only had time to read through the first 22 pages of the script. Not to worry, says the writer, and laid on him this special little Gears book. a graphic novelization of the script created specific for executives who don’t have time to read the entire thing.
