We didn’t care much when the official Garmin-ASUS collaboration ended this week, but ASUS still has exclusive rights to Garmin’s navigation tech for Android phones apparently. iPhone and BlackBerry users can expect to see a navigation app from Garmin soon, though how soon is now? Another day, another Android-powered smartphone hitting the Australian market. The latest is the Garmin-Asus nüvifone A50, a device that relies heavily on its internal GPS components to create a completely location-aware smartphone.
It’s been so long since Garmin announced the nüvifone, I thought it was turning into vapourware. But no, Optus has announced that they’ll be one of the first carriers in the world to launch the Garmin Asus branded A10 smartphone, starting from today.
A year ago, the satnav people at Garmin made an alliance with Asustek, the computer people. A while later, the G60 and M20 went on sale. In October, we branded the G60 with a ‘DO NOT BUY’ review tag.
