Welcome to Second Opinion, a semi-regular post where Giz AU offers its own perspective of a gadget the US guys have already reviewed. To kick things off, we’re going to take on the first real competitor to the iPad, Samsung’s Froyo-powered Galaxy Tab.
Samsung’s Galaxy S line of phones – all essentially the same, marched out across a gamut of carriers – is set to hit Verizon in the US. The 1Ghz, Android 2.1-powered Samsung Fascinate will cost $US200 on contract (after a dreaded $US100 mail-in rebate), and customers can pick one up online tomorrow or in stores on September 9. Like all the other Galaxy S phones, it’s been promised a Froyo update soon.
It was possibly the worst-kept secret in tablet-land (more so than the iPad), but the final specs have now been revealed for the Samsung Galaxy Tab. It’ll run Android 2.2 (Froyo) and comes in a 7-inch flavor—for now.
